With its scattering of remote farm buildings and the Cheviots which dominate the northern skyline some 40 miles away, it is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty. The nine hole course has been described by many as "challenging" and boasts many interesting obstacles. It is certainly not for the fainthearted but, time and again, visitors return determined to beat the ditches, gullies, and wooded fairways that make Allendale so special. Although the course is set in the glorious beauty of the northern Pennines, it is only fifteen minutes from Hexham. Alnmouth Golf Club - AlnmouthThe Club has a long and distinguished history and is proud of its heritage as the fourth oldest course in England, being established in 1869. The existing course was created in 1930 by the famous golf course architect H.S.Colt, providing a testing and enjoyable challenge to this day. Although the course has a coastal location is has parkland turf and a reputation for the quality of its greens. This left the original nine holes intact for what is now known as the Alnmouth Village Golf Club. Our course is a fine test of golf - 6450 yards long, par 71 - and has hosted National and County events. Alwoodley Golf Club - LeedsAccording to "Today's Golfer," Alwoodley is "one of the best-kept secrets in British golf." The course layout forms part of Wigton Moor and is of a natural moorland character. Springy fairways cut through a profusion of heather, whins and shrubs, with the trees particularly striking in autumn which American visitors find especially appealing. In addition to its scenic beauty, the course is plentifully and cunningly bunkered and has undulating and interesting greens. Over the years this impressive course has stood the test of time and is now in the best condition it has been for many years. Alyth Golf Club - AlythAn 18-hole (6,259 yds) heathland layout, Alyth Golf Club was established in 1894. The original 9 holes were designed by the master Old Tom Morris of St Andrews with James Braid completing the extension in 1934. Playing the course demands constant attention as a combination of tree lined fairways and diverse rolling terrain make the emphasis on precision golf rather than distance, although both are required. Alyth's most demanding aspect however, might be it's tranquil setting. Within the pines, silver birch and heather and overlooking the nearby hills, it is easy to lose yourself in the joys of a good game of golf with a layout so conceived that you barely notice other groups of golfers. Andover Golf Club - AndoverEstablished in 1907, the 'Andover Golf Club' is a 9-hole downland course situated in Winchester Road just half a mile south of Andover town centre. The course is 6096 yards long with splendid views of the undulating Hampshire countryside. Our signature hole is the par 3 ninth; 225 yards long with the tee situated on top of the hill, and the green 100 feet below. The chalk base allows the course to be free draining, and it is rarely closed even in the most adverse weather conditions. Golf trolleys can be used throughout the year. Ardeer Golf Club - StevenstonArdeer Golf Club is an exceptionally pleasant, rolling and well-appointed parkland course with hundreds of small, blossoming trees routed along the fairways and a babbling burn crossing in front of the greens. In playing the course, it is a lot more demanding than it appears. The 9th and 11th greens have recently been improved and are both exceptional holes playing across the "babblin" burn. The 9th is easily reachable from your second shot but the 11th at stroke index 1, is best approached from a lay-up. Our shop supplies a wide range of golfing goods from top manufacturers, while our clubhouse extends a warm welcome to all members and visitors. Arkley Golf Club - BarnetThe official opening of the club took place on 17th August 1909 by Lord Enfield. In 1929 the Barnet Urban District Council acquired the land from its previous owner and informed the club that, subject to the return of the area on Arkley Common, they would be prepared to extend the course to 46 acres and grant a 21 year lease to the club. J.H.Taylor, ex-Open Champion and Professional at Mid-Surrey Golf Club, and James Braid, Professional at Walton Heath Golf Club were asked to submit their proposals for a new course design to incorporate the larger area of land acquired. It was Braid's design for 9 holes with 18 tees that was adopted. Little has changed with the layout - a few more trees and bunkers. In 2002 the Club purchased a 180 year lease from Barnet Council securing the Club's future. Arkley remains a gem in Hertfordshire golf which is enjoyed by members and visitors alike. Arscott Golf Club - PontesburyArscott Golf Club is well worth a visit. Set in a wonderful location with fantastic views from all parts of the course across Shropshire's border country. The 18 hole course has been open since August 1992 but its maturity belies its age. Massive old oak and beech trees grace the course along with the remains of long forgotten mining and brick making industries. Large pools on the 17th and 18th holes are evidence of the clay dug over 100 years ago for brickworks in nearby Cruckmeole and Hanwood. These pits now create very testing hazards on the last four holes, many golfers will tell you how they can change a winning card. Ashbourne Golf Club - AshbourneAshbourne is the "Gateway to the Peak District" and this can be appreciated from our 18 hole course. Visitors and Societies are most welcome on all days of the week. The course has 20 holes - 18 of which forms a summer course of 6281 yards par 71 with 5 par 3's. The course is flat and very well provided with indigenous silver birch and oak trees. Greens have sprinkler system and main fairways have sprinklers all lifted to an on-going irrigation programme. The 7th hole - the avenue - and the 16th hole 'James Folly' are holes that visitors remember long after their visit. Visiting parties are welcomed all year with golf packages available. Ashridge Golf Club - BerkhamstedThe Club was officially opened in 1932 and has regularly featured in the top 100 golf courses in the UK. We are very pleased to announce that starting in 2003 and for a period of six years, Ashridge will host an 'Open Championship ' Regional Qualifying Competition. We are naturally delighted to have been selected by the R & A as a 'qualifying' course and of having the privilege of being associated with the 'Championship'. Ashridge first came to prominence, however, in the late 1930's following the appointment of Henry Cotton as resident Club Professional. Sir Henry Cotton as he was to become, was arguably the best golfer of his era, winning three Open Championships including the Open at Carnoustie in 1937 whilst he was at Ashridge. Aylesbury Vale Golf Club - Leighton BuzzardOur challenging course is 18 holes, par and S.S.S. 72 and measures 6,612 yards from the competition tees. We were founded in 1989 and open for play in 1991. Whilst the course is long, the fairways are generous and the holes are surrounded by trees. The course has been designed with ample space between holes. You play ‘your own hole’, there are no cross – overs and it is difficult to knock your ball onto another fairway due to the spacious layout. A natural brook runs through the course, which creates some challenging water features. Please make use of our restaurant, bars, changing rooms, showers, driving range, putting green, golf shop and club professional. We look forward to seeing you soon. Baildon Golf Club - ShipleyBaildon Golf Club was founded in 1896 and offers an excellent Par 70 moorland golf course, with magnificent views and superb facilities. The club is situated close to Bradford and is easily reached, yet enjoys a lovely country setting. It is not without significance that the prime movers in the establishing of a golf course on Baildon Moor were members of the medical profession. No doubt these pioneers realised the common's potential as a setting for the great game, but they were also keenly aware of the health-giving properties of the moorland air. Baildon golf club welcomes groups, parties to sample its inland links type layout and offers unbeatable value. Balmore Golf Club - GlasgowSituated 7 miles from the centre of Glasgow, Balmore is one of the most picturesque courses in Central Scotland with uninterrupted views of the unspoiled surrounding countryside. Beautifully set with fir plantations, tree lined fairways and burns a feature on several holes. The 5542 yard course is a demanding Par 66 (SSS 67) and features strong Par 4’s, one of the most demanding Par 3’s in golf (15th) and one of the most scenic, (the signature hole 16th). The club has recently made huge investments in the latest equipment all of which keeps the course in the first class condition demanded by the members. In addition to the course Balmore has superb practice facilities. Bamburgh Castle Golf Club - BamburghPerched on basalt outcrops overlooking the ancient fortress from which it takes its name, Bamburgh Castle Golf Club often referred to as the most picturesque in England is also a fine test of golf for all that play it, being a regular venue for County and Inter-County events. Whilst not long at just over 5,600 yards off the back markers, the course is a demanding par 68. How you perform on the six par 3’s will often dictate your score, their difficulty being exampled by the 6th, an uphill 224 yard hole which warrants its Stroke Index 1. Good birdie opportunities also await you however particularly on the 3 closing holes, where there are 2 par 4’s under 300 yards. Barlaston Golf Club - StoneBarlaston golf Club nestles alongside the River Trent just south of Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire. It is about 1 hour drive from Birmingham or Manchester. Designed by Peter Alliss in 1977, Barlaston Golf Course is described as a little beauty. Many societies from the West Midlands, Liverpool and Manchester have already discovered Barlaston when looking for a break. The course, a par 68 over 5,800 yards long, never plays the same on morning and afternoon rounds, so don't expect an easy day. Take a look at some of the Super Challenges that face you in the rolling meadow land at Barlaston. Barnham Broom Golf Resort - NorwichThe real beauty of golf at Barnham Broom is the contrasting character of the two courses and the challenges they offer. Take the Valley Course, beautifully designed by Frank Pennink, one of Europe's most respected golf course architects, with abundant water features, blending into the delightful natural landscape. Then there's the Hill Course, another of Frank's designs, although, this time, modified by Donald Steel. As its name suggests, golfers can enjoy fine views over the surrounding countryside, while rising to the challenge posed by constant breezes and carefully placed bunkers guarding the greens. Baron Hill Golf Club - BeaumarisThis mature Course was designed in the late 1880s by Sir Richard William Bulkeley and measures a deceptive 5.596 Yards in length and is created on mature heathland. The Par 68 Course threads it’s way cunningly through natural hazards, a river defends three of the holes as it meanders down to the Menai Straits. Baron Hill is free of Bunkers and we are sure once you have played it you will be glad of this bearing in mind each hole is carefully defended by natural hazards such as Oak, Ash Trees, elevated greens and of course the odd Gorse bush! Baron Hill is a thinking golfers course where every club in the bag will be required to breach its defences and the watch word is very much ‘Course Management’. Barton-on-Sea Golf Club - New MiltonBarton-on-Sea Golf Club, founded in 1897, is situated on the coastal cliff between Highcliffe and Milford-on-Sea. Hamilton Stutt, a founder member of the Association of British Golf Course Architects which were completed in 1992.
