'I was travelling with my 3 daughters and stayed at this guest house for 2 nights as it was quite convenient for Alton Towers (20 mins away), I found the staff very polite and friendly. Our room was located in the attic which is located at the top of a very narrow and steep staircase which was not a major problem for us, but maybe for some. We had one double bed and 2 singles, I found sleeping on the single mattress quite uncomfortable as I could hear and feel the springs, but the double bed appeared to have an additional layer to make that a bit more comfortable but as my kids had that, they had the better sleep. The en-suite bathroom had an electric shower (which is typical of many electric showers and slightly underpowered), toilet and a basin (in which the taps were loose) that is mounted in the eaves, as there is no way to put a mirror on that wall behind, it was to the right and about the height that would be good if I was about 18 inches shorter ( I'm 6'2" ) as you might guess, shaving was not easy. Breakfast (full english) was served between 7am and 8am and in my opinion was pretty good and was served within 5 minutes of requesting it. Lots of parking available, Tescos in walking distance and was located where we could eat out in the evening ( very convenient for Wetherspoons if you like good value food and a real ale and children friendly up until 9pm ) We would consider staying there again as it was good value for money.'

'I used the guest house for a one night stop over but found it very clean and with all facilities I required - especially at the low price I paid. Within walking distance to the railway station. Staff very polite and nothing too much trouble - ordering taxis etc. Good English breakfast and plenty of it. Would recommend to anyone else.'

'What a wonderful jewel. The guest house is extremely convenient to town, the train station, multiple food/pub options and entertainment. The owner arranged for our car hire to a nearby town. Breakfast was well prepared and as much or less as you personally choose. This guest house is well deserving of all positive reviews. We will go back and book again.'

'We stayed here in April 2011 for two nights whilst visiting Alton Towers. The location was great as it was close to the train station, from where a bus shuttle travelled to Alton Towers daily. The room was clean and comfortable, comprising of a double and two single beds. Located at the top of two steep flights of stairs, the room may be unsuitable for those with reduced mobility. Breakfast was great and cooked to order and they had plenty of suitable offerings for the gluten- free diet. A good range of family restaurants close-by.'

'We were visiting Uttoxter for a family wedding and stayed two nights. The room was compact but cosy. There were no complimentary soaps or shower gels which would be a welcome addition. The tea tray was well stocked. Breakfast was fine with generous portions, although it could be served until later at weekends. The check out time was 10.30 a.m., again too early for a weekend. Overall, a good B & B for a short stay.'

'We stayed there for one night last weekend and the service was excellent....warm welcome from the receptionist, nice warm & clean ensuite room, quiet location (we slept like logs)and full english breakfast. The surrounding (walking distance) has good places to eat or shop like Tesco, Frankie & Bennys, KFC, JD Wetherspoons among others. It's an ideal location for those visiting Alton Towers (approx. 15-20 mins drive). We would definitely go back there. To Oldroyd Guest House staff - Keep it up and thank you for your hospitality.'

'Good value, clean and all in order. All required facilities were provided. I liked the easy to use and effective shower too. Breakfast was served efficiently and freindly and happy staff attended. I liked the proper filter coffee - better than the caffetier I got in more expensive places. The place has its own parking really easy to get in and out of and quickly accessible to major routes yet quiet room. For me a good break point in drives from lakes to Sussex or from further. Convenient for M6 avoiding Birmingham mess then cross over to M1.'
