'My boyfriend and I were in the Kingsclere area for two days on a Watership Down pilgrimage when we stayed at the Swan Hotel. Our room was comfy, clean and well-furnished (with a four-poster bed, which incited much exclaiming from us, heh!). We ate at the hotel in the evening and for breakfast - all the food was of fantastic quality and delicious. And last but not at all least, the hotel staff were super-friendly and so helpful that I cannot commend them enough. Extra thanks to Alastair who not only helped us out with our shaky knowledge of the area but also gave us a lift to the Down. You saved our legs some considerable strain! 'The CAMRA Good Beer Guide has come up trumps again. We stayed here on the write up in the Guide and it was all it was cracked up to be. The Locale approach meant I could drink a selection of of local beers and the dinner was excellent. Retired to a four poster bed after fine food and ale.'

'The room was OK and the food was excellent - an attentive host and hostess, excellent guest ales, price point very competitive. Parking is limited but off road. I certainly was always able to park up well. The room was very small for a double (OK for my own single occupancy, TV was also tiny, but this is only a criticism of a single room not the hotel. Everything else was very good or better. Particular likes - the books and newspapers, warm rooms but openable windows. Particular dislikes - both seat and lid of tiny loo could not stay up. Nothing to be done about it though, except use a towl to cushion one's back! Also, when the hotel washing machines are on the hot water becomes tepid. Dont let the negatives get in the way - I certainly will be using this hotel again -and recommending it to colleagues based on the food, the hospitality and the price.'

'A very good stay bar the very soft and "roll into the middle" bed. A radio in the room would have been nice as the TV was not set up to receive digital signals. Food (evening and b/fast) was excellent.'
