'I have been touring the country along the national cycle network and had stopped at reading in 2009 on my journey to lands end. In 2010 I started at reading to continue onto lands end. I have a 8 seater taxi and on easter monday i brought somepeople from Tavistock Devon to reading for a Wedding and the reception was at the bird in hand.I brought my cycle along and rode from Knowl hill to reading and back.This last two weeks i have toured the south east starting from crawley so it seemed the right thing to do to make tracks towards reading and i remembered the Bird in hand from easter. Booking was not a problem on line. On the day of arrival I was running late but there was no problem with that. On arrival the lady was most helpful with securing my bike and the room was excellent. The evening meal and breakfast was superb. I do believe there was a little domestic between staff in the morning but I thought it was a role playing exercise with members holding a breakfast/conferance in one of the adjacent rooms.It all added to the excitement of the day and another chapter in my national cyle network tour. yours sincerely Eric Pinch the pedaling pilgrim'

'My recent stay in the Bird in Hand was very positive. The room was nice - even though some of the furniture (wardrobe, desk) looked dated in comparison to the rest that seemed to be newly refurbished. Very nice bathroom. The breakfast options where very good also. I'd certainly use the Bird in Hand again if I was to stay in the area in the future.'

'Would certainly recommend this hotel. All the staff were friendly and accommodating. The room was of a good size, clean and comfortable. it was lovely to be able to eat dinner in the garden although the bar and restaurant looked equally inviting. I chose it initially because they accept dogs which sometimes means a second rate hotel. I certainly Couldn't say that about this one.'
