Sidmouth is a small town of 14,400 on the east Devon coast in south west England about 15 miles south east of Exeter. Situated at the mouth of the River Sid, it is surrounded by the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is on the Jurassic Coast world heritage site and the South West Coast Path, a long distance footpath that skirts almost all of the coast in the West Country of England. The principal income of the town is from tourism. The town is also popular as a retirement community, with about 60% of the population being over retirement age. Sidmouth is home to the Norman Lockyer Observatory and Planetarium, located on a hilltop site at Salcombe.

If Sidmouth is referred to as the 'Jewel of the Westcountry' then Westcliff must be the 'Jewel of Sidmouth'. We enjoy a unique position in this truly beautiful and un-commercialized Regency town � where views and values have changed little with the passage of time. Within the Heritage Coast and defended from every wind but the south, we have a natural advantage. Our high peaks, protected by the National Trust, and dramatic red cliffs, trap the sun along the sheltered shore in our softly curving south facing bay, extending our season well beyond that of most other coastal resorts. Sidmouth is known as that charming little coastal town, unspoilt and architecturally interesting.
