well worth going off the beaten track
5 stars 5

'I guess before google this lovely guest house would have been featured in off the beaten track books for the UK. A lovely welcome from the owners and a spotless well appointed double room with great ensuite. The TV reception was a bit sporadic but it is in a remote area amongst the hills. The cooked breakfast was fabulous and the host was always in good humour. We were more than happy to go back form th lake district on 2 of our 3 nights to be sure of a good nights peaceful sleep in lovely surroundings and if the weather is good the sunsets at the back of the house are amazing'

Excellent b&B
5 stars 5

'We stayed at Bessiestown about six years ago on a trip to Scotland and it was fabulous. We decided to try it again on our next trip up North and it was just as wonderful. The rooms are luxurious and the hosts are very friendly. We enjoyed a lovely cooked breakfast. The surrounding area is so pretty and quiet so we had the most restful sleep. I recommend this B&B to everyone and we will definitely come again next trip to the North.'

The best kind of B & B

'We really enjoyed our one night stay at Bessietown. We had a warm welcome from the owner\'s daughter Maria, and were very comfortable in one of the apartments facing the main house. A delicious breakfast the following morning set us up for the next part of our drive to the north of Scotland. We cannot recommend Bessietown too highly, and will certainly return if we have the opportunity.'

We also asked for an evening meal as we were travelling from Somerset and they were very accommodating. We hadn\'t stayed in the Borders before, it is so beautiful,we were very impressed. 'We arrived at Bessietown with our friends who were getting married at Gretna. From the second we arrived nothing was too much trouble. We were all thoroughly spoiled the whole of our stay! The accommodation is elegant, pretty and classy. It was a real treat to stay there. We had an evening meal there too during our stay and that was lovely too. I can honestly say our experience of staying at Bessietown was second to none and we would love to visit again one day. The whole experience really gave our friends the nicest start to their married life too!!'

'We've stayed at Bessietown before and went back on a long trip from Devon to Seil Island because we were so impressed before. It's quiet, clean , and comfortable and the food is excellent. I wasn't well when we arrived and couldn't enjoy it but Margaret looked after me and gave me what I could manage with great kindness and no fuss. A really good place to stay in beautiful countryside and we look forward to a longer stay one day.'

'Having booked 3 nights in September, we arrived after a 200 mile journey and were made very welcome on arrival. Jack showed us the layout of the property and then to our room. The room was bright, comfortable and spotlessly clean, as was the downstairs lounge, conservatory and dining areas. The breakfast was substantial and a shining example of well cooked good quality local produce. The evening meal was delicious! To have stayed in such a friendly house, in a location with such superb views, certainly was the icing on the cake and helped make our holiday. Many thanks to Margaret, Jack, Maria and Anne.'

Great place to stay
5 stars 5

'We stayed as a stopover between Scotland and the Midlands. Room was decorated to a high standard and all the little touches have clearly been well thought out. A very comfortable bed and quiet nights sleep. Hospitality was great from a great family serving a top notch breakfast. The settings quite a way from the M6 and set in beautiful countryside. For me though it was worth the extra travel time to stay in a nice guest house. Would stay again in the future.'

Bessietown, the Best in Town
5 stars 5

'This is the second time we have stayed at Bessietown on our way to Scotland. We returned because it was a wonderful experience. You don't stay a stranger for long. The bedrooms and en-suites are light and airy, beautifully decorated, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The public rooms are welcoming and the large conservatory looks out on a stunning garden. The meals are delicious and well presented and the whole atmosphere is warm, friendly and full of fun. You soon get talking to other guests - that's how it is. The owners and staff are helpful and interested in you. Our only regret is that we don't stay there often enough. It's a gem!'

Hidden Gem!
5 stars 5

'Believe what you read, the excellent reviews on here all speak the truth. Now I am a clean, house proud person - but this place is immaculate! We stayed for one night here on our way down from Scotland back to Yorkshire - its not far from the M74 just passed Gretna. The place is beautiful, we stayed in the main building just to the right at the top of the stairs. It was spacious, wonderfully decorated, ensuite with double shower, fluffy white towels and the comfiest bed! We stayed for dinner (£20 each, glasses of wine for £3) which was lamb with all the trimmings followed by a choice of deserts. (infact, after you have finished your first desert, you are offered a second!) Everything was home made (except the wine) with local produce. Both dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious and the dining area is just as immaculate as the rooms. We enjoyed after dinner coffee in the the conservatory or we could have sat in the lounge, again both rooms are delightful. Although we didn't do a lot of exploring while we were here there are plenty of places to go walking. Margaret and Tom ("yes dear")would be happy to point out routes to you. The owners and the family are all very helpful and friendly. It really does feel like home from home.'

More Than We bargained For
5 stars 5

'My wife and I spent a couple of nights here in March. It wasn't our first visit, but it had been three years or so since we last travelled to the northern metropolis known as Catlowdy. We had been very impressed by it on our previous visit, so were hoping that it had kept up its high standards. We booked a standard double room and were pleasantly suprised to be shown on arrival by Margaret to one of the cottage apartments, thereby getting a free upgrade. The apartment had two bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms on the ground floor, with a living room/kitchen on the upper floor. The apartment was spotless and very comfortable. It enjoyed beautiful views across the fields to the borders. Although we were the only guests on our first night, Margaret very kindly agreed to prepare a fabulous evening meal consisting of a delicious chicken dinner and a choice of lovely desserts. Well worth £55 for two including a very enjoyable bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Breakfast was also first class. Jack and Margaret are the perfect hosts and I really can't recommend this place highly enough.'

'We stayed a night at Bessiestown in July. I was traveling with my two adult children from Scotland. Unfortunately for us, there was an accident on the highway which caused a four hour detour and we arrived late in the evening. 'A delightful B&B in the country. We only wish we had more time to meet the owners. We arrived later than we wanted and followed the note on the door to our room.
