'our second visit - it's just so convenient for when we visit our daughter in Hitchin. Staff very pleasant, breakfast good and room has everything you need for a short stay. We will continue to use.'

Our Stay
5 stars 5

'Had a really lovely stay with you. The hotel looked as if it was 'cared for': I understand it is privately owned and maybe that makes a difference. Room very comfortable and spacious: ensuite bathroom very clean and sparkly, breakfast as expected. Yes, I would recommend Firs Hotel and would stay again.'

Good stay
4 stars 4

'The hotel has flat screen tv, free wifi and is clean and tidy. Staff are friendly, and went out of the way for me at the weekend by opening up the breakfast room an hour earlier than the stated time - on both Saturday and Sunday - because they knew I was working. I would happily stay here again.'

Friendly Spot
4 stars 4

'Only stayed one night, and needed to eat early as I was going out to a show. This was no problem and quickly arranged. Basic single bedroom was just that, but clean and warm on a very cold night. Breakfast good and checkout easy. Everyone I dealt with was very friendly and welcoming. Will certainly stay again.'

Friendly welcome
5 stars 5

'I stayed at the Firs Hotel whilst working in that area. This is the type of accommodation you want while working away from home. When you arrive you receive a very friendly welcome, with a smile and greeting from behind the reception desk, which I very much appreciate. The accommodation is as you want it being clean and comfortable. The evening meal is excellent with a good variety on the menu cooked when you order it, why walk into town when you have this right here. Breakfast is also excellent and I can thoroughly recommend the double, it sets you up for the rest of the day. This hotel is on the top of my list and I will be using it again when working in that area. Many thanks to all the staff for a very pleasant couple of days stay.'

Just what I was looking for.
4 stars 4

'I stayed recently at this hotel with a Colleague for the second time; We found the hotel in fairly good condition but most importantly clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. On my first nights stay my room was cold because the radiator would not or spasmodically worked; in the morning I mentioned this at reception and that evening, not only had the fault been fixed but I was supplied with an additional electric heater as well. The food is very good quality if a little restricted in choice but the menu is excellent in that you can order rice or spagetti as an alternative to the normally (in most other restaurants) ever present chips (sorry French Fries or Wedges). We stay in so many hotels through work, so believe me, this is a very welcome feature.'

overnight stay 2 couples in 2 double rooms
5 stars 5

'We stayed overnight as we were attending a 60th Birthday party in Hitchin. Rooms were comfortable and breakfast good. We were pleased with the service received very helpful and friendly reception even gave us a map to help us find our way. Would advise asking for a room on side adjacent to patio as the room we had on outerside could hear the traffic noise even though we were not adjacent to road think it was transmitted through the velux window. Would stay here again.'

4 stars 4

'we were looking for a rest and this was achieved.we were greeted by friendly staff. the cleanliness was excellent; the breakfasts also, but the evening meals were adequate. the room was comfortable but small and I found the shower to be very cramped. all in all we thought we received very good value for money and we would return very willingly. it was good to have such adequate parking available close to the town centre.'

'Good value hotel. Rooms were very clean and the staff were very friendly, helpful and polite. I didn't use the dining facilities but the breakfast was very. This was a very good value trip - the hotel is small and basic but that is reflected in the cost. All in all a very enjoyable and good value stay. Good location for walking into Hitchen and nice to have free wifi.'

Food
2 stars 2

'We have to say the Breakfast was lovley, but the evening meal left a lot to be desired. When you Have fish and Salad, you would expect a good size salad with onions peppers, toms but it was just lettiuce and tom with grated carrot, and at least some lemon on the fish, also my husband had Scampie and chips, you also would have expected some garnish and a slice of lemon on the side for the fish, for the price you expect at least some garnish justto finish it off, We feel that we were rushed, we had starter, main course in half an hour, when you are busy all week, it is nice to beable to relax when you are having food and not feel rushed, to be honest I could have made it more presentable. Yes I know it all comes down to cost, but slice of lemon and a little garnish does not have to cost the earth.'

A Good Comfortable and Friendly Stay
4 stars 4

'We stayed at The Firs for a friend's party. The welcome was warm and helpful, the room was (whilst not overly roomy) comfortable and spotlessly clean with a small but well-equipped bathroom and a welcome ceiling fan! The quiet, relaxed bar provided a great space to catch up with old friends and the restaurant provided a good value, excellent home cooked meal (with proper chips and home-baked bread!) Breakfast was tasty and the service was excellent. For the price of the stay, I'd consider it to be great value and would both recommend The Firs and stay there again.'

'Good location, just outside but within easy walking distance of Hitchin. Excellent food - evening meals and breakfast (the latter included in the price). Plenty of parking; wi-fi. Absolutely no complaints about our twin room (at the back, although one traveller we met said it was a little noisy at the front on the main road).'

Weekend
4 stars 4

'We stayed for the weekend with my 87 year old mother whilst attending a family wedding nearby. Our rooms were spacious and comfortable and the residents lounge, dining room and bar were lovely. Food was good, we had two breakfasts and ate in the restaurant one evening. Staff were very pleasant. Only criticism was that the light carpets in the bedroom were very dirty and stained, spoiled an otherwise first class small hotel.'

Can;t recommend enough

'We stayed at the Firs Hotel whilst attending the Sonisphere festival at Knebworth. Location was perfect and facilities well beyond our requirements. All the staff could not do enough for us - everyone was so attentive and friendly; the bed was the comfiest I've ever slept in!; and all the food was of excellent standard. If circumstances allow we hope to attend Sonisphere again and would stay nowhere else but the Firs. Thank you all!'

Friendly and well priced
5 stars 5

'Hi, we stayed at the Firs hotel on Monday 20th june 2011 as part of our cycle ride around the Chilterns. The reception staff were friendly and helpful and gave us a safe place to store our cycles. The en-suit twin room was very good with a larger than expected digital TV. The breaky was fine and served in good time. All in all the price of £65 for a twin room B & B was very good value and would definatley use again.'

A Hertfordshire Gem
4 stars 4

'I have just spent 5 very pleasant nights at this Hotel. Although maybe a little dated for some tastes, the important attributes are all there at an affordable price. On arrival it is refreshing to find they have a car park - quite often a luxury item! Staff are pleasant and courteous, A breakfast room serving a good hearty breakfast selection, and a separate restaurant and licensed bar (I did not use these but they looked fine) I had a small single room that was adequate for my needs, with a decent bed, crisp linen, a large plasma screen free-view TV (with 3 additional Italian channels - I think the owners are Italian?)Desk area with tea & coffee making facility, free Wi-Fi and a bathroom with bath and POWER shower - great for us early risers! All in all I would have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel to anyone visiting Hertfordshire, or London come to that (Handy rail link to London Centre) I certainly look forward to returning sometime in the future, John'
