'Lovely setting, very friendly and cosy local pub and the menu looked delicious however we did not get chance to sample the menu! The room was clean and warm and did the job nicely. 'My husband and I frequently take week-end breaks in pubs within a 100 mile radius of our home. We recently visited the Wombwell Arms and were warmly welcomed by Ian, who took us to our room. it was quite spacious and tastefully decorated. The room had an en-suite with a bath and shower, and toileterries were in place. The bed was extemely comfortably with lovely bed linen. the bar area was clean and welcoming with an open fire, where we viewed the menu for our evening meal. The menu was unusal and offered classic dishes alongside some interesting dishes with a south african flavour. The food was excellent, and the young man waiting on was most attentive. the breakfast the following morning was excellent and prepared once we'd entered the dining room. We enjoyed our visit so much we have passed on the leaflet from the pub to our friends. we definately intend returning.'

'A traditional Yorkshire pub with a warm welcome, friendly staff and a nice bunch of locals. (The Slaughtered Lamb it is not). Food and beer excellent. Log fire etc. Good value stay for B and B. Would have given five stars, but as a rule I don't give anything five stars. Worth it though.'

'there is only one word to describe the Wombwell arms. Amazing. A lovely quiet retreat with a warm welcome no matter what time you arrive. The food prepared by eunice is superb and definately keeps you wanting more. On our first night I decided to go for three courses and quite happily waddled back up to the room afterwards feeling very full. If you decide to have a sweet then you must try the tipsy tart. Although my wife did say the creme brulee was just as good. I would definately recommend this country pub to anyone wanting a little bolt hole to escape the real world for a few days and will certainly be returning when work commitments allow'
