'My partner and I stayed at Fortitude Cottage for one night last week when visiting Portsmouth for a short break. We could not fault the b&b in any way. Firstly, it's in a perfect position, being just a short walk from the Dockyard and shopping area but also within easy reach of several pubs and "eateries" for your evening meal. Our room was super with a view over the harbour. Our en suite shower room was small but spotless, the bed was comfortable and the furnishings tasteful. There were little extras like bottled water and a good selection of coffees, teas etc. Our breakfast was delicious, and again there was a varied menu to choose from. Mike and Maggie are delightful and nothing was too much trouble for them. We will definitely stay there again on future trips to Portsmouth.'

'We spent one night here as we were attending a party at the nearby Still & West.We stayed in the Penthouse room which was large, bright, beautifully appointed and spotless. It was a tad chilly to make use of the 360 terrace in February but the views were stunning and I feel a trip to Portsmouth in the summer may be on the cards so that we can make the most of it. 'What a lovely little find. And easy to find too, just stay on the A3 and stop just before your feet get wet! Fortitude Cottage is in an enviable location with interest and action all around. The scene out of the windows and the panoramic view off of the rooftop balcony is fascinating and always changing, and the Spinnaker that dominates the skyline looks great at all hours of the day (make sure you go up it for even more far-reaching views). Our room was was very nicely decorated and furnished - just on the right side of contemporary but with enough comfort and warmth to make it a pleasure to come back to after a brisk dockside walk. Maggie was there to greet us and settle us in and made sure we had all we needed, and to check that the penthouse room was nice and warm on what was a bitterly cold day. Our breakfast was really good and we sat at the window seat watching the ferries come and go before heading off for some bargain shopping at Gun Wharf Quay, just and easy stroll away. I can see us going back in the very near future.'

'As it was out first visit we decided to find the B&B before we discovered the shops and restaurant for lunch in Gunwharf Quays. There are convenient parking places immediately outside the front of the building, either on the street or the car park directly outside the front. Our hosts were at home some 4 hours before we were due to check-in, we were warmly welcomed, the car-park permit received & we checked in early. Stayed one night only in a large, well-fitted room with a view of the Spinnaker Tower, Gunwharf & Isle of Wight Ferry. The bathroom was as big as some B&B rooms we have stayed in, it had a large bath and a walk-in or "walk-around" shower room. More than ample cooked breakfast options, selection of fruit & cereals, fresh pot of coffee all professionally presented and served by excellent hosts. Great location for ship spotters and shopaholics!'

'My friend and I had a very enjoyable stay a Frotitude Cottage. It started with a warm welcome from one the the owners (Mike) with an explanation of the facilities, interesting information about the Old Town and Gun Wharf Quays. He also advised us on good restraunts , pubs and bars in the area. We were also greeted very warmly by Maggie (the other owner) who was equally friendly and helpful. There is a very relaxed and homely atsmophere at Fortitude Cottage. Nothing was too much trouble. And even though checkout was 10 am they kindly let us keep the room till 1 30 pm (without charging extra) as we were going to a christening at the cathedral at 2 pm and needed to change. The facilities are excellent as is the food. The bedroom and bathroom were very clean,stylish and confortable. We would definitely return and also recommend this excellent B&B.'

'If your thinking of booking Fortitude Cottage then stop thinking and do it, we weren't disappointed and and are sure you won't be either, Maggie & Mike will be waiting with a warm smile to welcome you. We stayed for a 3 night break (Thu-Sat)in room 5 which is on the ground floor in the next door accommodation.It is only 2 steps from one front door to the other so not a problem when you go for breakfast and what a breakfast too, we didn't eat lunch for 3 day's having had the very generous b/fast's that they offer each morning. The parking is free which is a big bonus and if you can't get in one of the spaces right outside then you can use the car park the other side of the road and although the Isle of Wight ferry terminal is within sight the double glazing does a very good job and we were never disturbed by the too-ing and fro-ing of the ferries. There are some excellent places to eat within a 10 min walk including a huge choice at Gunwharf Quays and we did not move the car from when we arrived to when we left apart from "she who must be obeyed" wanting to go to the Cascades shopping centre on the Sat morning. We really can't find anything to fault and will definitely stay here again should we decide to have another break in Portsmouth.'

'On our arrival at Fortitude cottage we were met by Maggie and Mike who wre really friendly. Maggie showed my wife and I to our room and told us there was an ice cold bottle of Champagne for us in the fridge when we wanted it which was a lovely suprise. We booked the penthouse room which is absolutely beautiful and comes with a stunning rooftop deck of it's own for you to enjoy (always something to see up there). The breakfast next morning was all cooked freshly and was very enjoyable. I really cant praise Maggie and Mike enough for their hospitality and their wonderful cottage. Old Portsmouth is a great place as well and we will definitely be returning to Fortitude cottage.'

'I lived in Portsmouth for many years and know the area well. I first found Fortitude Cottage a number of years ago when visiting Portsmouth with my husband and have never stayed anywhere else since. I now take my son regularly and he loves it too. Fortitude Cottage hosts a beautiful position in Old Portsmouth and is just steps away from the waterfront, ferry ports and Gunwharf Quays. The rooms are bright and airy and always spotless clean.....I particularly like the penthouse room with the private roof terrace which is where I stay with my husband, but the ground floor twin room I stay in with my son is equally as suitable. Maggie & Mike always offer a warm welcome and will go out of their way to do whatever they can to help you and make your stay more comfortable. The English breakfast is excellent, freshly cooked each morning and served with a smile. Like I say I would honestly never stay anywhere else.....Fortitude Cottage has everything!'

'Attention to detail " best sums up Mike and Maggies' approach to their Business. From the minute we booked online, everything happened efficiently, yet in a relaxed and unobtrusive way. Our Room (Room 5) was as described; stylsh comfortable and well equipped with a superb en-suite "wet room".The Dining Room has stunning views across the Harbour to the Spinnaker Tower and Breakfast options will satisfy the most demanding of palates. The property is located a short walk away from Gunwharf Quays and the various Maritime Museums and close to a wide variety of "eating out" options. Parking is free for Fortitude Residents. Mike and Maggie take Customer Service to new levels and are always on hand to give advice on local amenities. (We arrived having damaged a tyre on our car but before we could call Roadside Assistance Mike, personally, changed the wheel for us - service "over and above" or what!) My comfortable stay started with Maggie's friendly and warm welcome even though it was rather a bit early check-in. The room was very clean, stylish, excellent harbour view, very close to a nice pub and so quiet inside I could have a good and comfortable sleep! The full English breakfast was also excellent and they served me just what I wanted. The taste was really good. The dining room was also clean and beautiful, just like a place where I would love to come back and stay again. One thing I felt sorry about is I stayed there one day only and had to leave there in the early morning! Next time I get the chance to visit Portsmouth I would definitely come back and stay in this place again. This is the place I would like to recommend my friends and family to stay in and enjoy their 'warm-welcome' experience.'

'Stayed in November 2011 in the Penthouse double room.Everything was as described, but was better than we expected.The view from the roof top was out of this world.The host Maggie and Mike couldn,t do enough for you.Will recommend to family and friends.'
