Excellent food

'My daughter and I enjoyed our stay, lovely room and helpful staff, food was very good fro both breakfast and dinner with meat from butcher next door. There was some noise from the bar (just talking) until closing time but was not too obtrusive. Very enjoyable stay'

Basic but clean and friendly
4 stars 4

'We stayed between Christmas and New Year for 5 days. The pub is a busy, popular local to the surrounding villages, rugby team and supporters and the hunt. Walking in the area is second to none it was very frosty outside but us room was lovely and warm. The staff were very friendly and helpful the meals are good, nicely presented and plentiful. The pub brews its own beers and we were able to go see the brewing process to the back of the pub, very interesting. Plenty of organised events at the pub, live music, Christmas quiz, pool, poker and the hunt breakfast. I would recommend this pub.'

'The Clee 3 return for another pre-Christmas weekend break. This year The Clee 3 mk2 were made very welcome. Kendall (wife), myself and Betty (Spaniel/Lurcher cross) were all very impressed with the accommodation, breakfast, food & drink. The run-up to Christmas wouldn\'t be the same without a visit to the best pub in Shropshire. It never ceases to amaze me how this pubs continues to be so many things to so many people: it\'s a tourist destination for those wanting to get away from the chaos of 21st century life; a restaurant for those with a love of fine dining; yet remains a boozer for locals (and visitors) where you can feel comfortable without the stuffy atmosphere so often associated with country inns. Well done Jack & Hannah and the team. See you in 2017.'

Always a warm and welcoming reception from Jack, Hannah and the team, not to mention the regulars who are equally as friendly and great fun. 4 stars 4

'We found a very warm and friendly greeting at the hotel. The staff and owner were superb. The beer and food outstanding. The rooms although comfortable where a little cluttered, who needs a TV when the rest of the hotel and village offer so much? I would have given 5 stars if it were not for the WiFi. Which is not truly free as personal details were required to be given prior to access. An advertisers ploy, although BT Fon is available for those with a Bt contract.'

Traditional English Inn
4 stars 4

'We had to be moved from our first room to another, because the shower was broken. However, this was done with the minimum of fuss, and we felt the second room to be more spacious (Red room). The rooms are simple, and could do with a little refurbishment. But plenty of drink options provided, together with real glasses (not plastic). Very comfortable beds, made up with good linen. We had three evening meals, which were excellently presented and delicious. The staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful. This is an excellent place from which to explore the surrounding countryside. And the beer was excellent!!'

Perfect for walking The Shropshire Way and Offa\'s
5 stars 5

'I\'m reviewing this as a backpacker. Our requirements: A hot shower, place to put your boots and wet things; hairdryer (we\'re not all bald males!) great dinner and breakfast, warm room and comfortable bed. Our second stay at the White Horse and it ticks all boxes listed above. This excellent, friendly and busy pub (real ales, brewed in Clun) is open all day, the food (try the steak and kidney suet pudding) is lovely; rooms are perfectly equipped and comfortable with good quality furnishings and a very powerful shower and good toiletries. The breakfast was superb- a full English and not at all greasy. Food is locally sourced. A perfect place to stay (backpacking or posh) for touring the area. This is absolutely not a criticism, but packet jams at breakfast are taking over British B&Bs. Join me is persuading all B&Bs and hotels to buy a jar or two of locally made preserves! Spread ShopLocal on your toast'

A wonderful place to go walking
3 stars 3

'We had a pleasant stay at the Whitehorse. Clun is beautiful and great for walking. The beer in the pub is really good and the staff and locals warm and friendly. Food was fine, pretty average pub food and tasted home cooked fresh and tasty. Our room was fine, nothing special by the shower was poor, not generous with tea and coffee making provision (lack of milk and range of teas). The toilet was mysteriously noisy and television small. However the bed was comfy and it was nice and warm. As the rooms are above the pub it was noisy when the band was on but not really a bother to us as we were drinking in the bar for the most part. Breakfast was ok, nothing special but filled us up for a days walking. I would go back to the Whitehorse as I loved the pub and the price point is very reasonable. 'Excellent accommodation in a warm and welcomiming inn in the centre of Clun. Our room was spotlessly clean and overlooked The Square in Clun. The atmosphere in the bar was vibrant and the staff very friendly. There was a good selection of bar meals to choose from, at reasonable prices and these could be eaten in the restaurant or the bar. The breakfasts were equally impressive, particularly the \'Full English\' with offers of more toast and coffee. The range of beers on offer was also excellent with at least three from the inn\'s own microbrewery. All this in the centre of great walking country. A liitle \'off the beaten track\' of the M5 but well worth the visit.'

Lovely local pub
3 stars 3

'We stayed two night here and enjoyed the whole experience. Room was clean and spacious, the en suite small but also clean. Home cooked evening meals very good. Noise may be a problem if you go to bed early or are there when they have a live group. We went to bed early and could hear the bar noise in the background but didn\'t stop us sleeping in the very comfy bed. Staff very friendly and helpful.'

Offa\'s Dyke Trip
5 stars 5

'This was one of our overnight stops on our journey North to South on the Offa\'s dyke path. It is a slight detour (3 miles) off the path along the Shropshire way to Clun, but well worth it. The pub was busy with plenty of choice of beers and ciders. Staff are friendly, food was good and accommodation was clean and tidy. All this at a reasonable price so what more can you ask for. We would all visit again if in the area. Thanks Jack and I hope your wifes\' hair is growing back after her brave decision to have it shaved off for charity.'

The White Horse Inn
4 stars 4

'We stayed for two nights in September 2014, in the blue room. There was a warm welcome from staff who seemed to be happy in their work . The room was comfortable with all the basic necessities. The food was enjoyable, with the usual pub range plus some more imaginative dishes - a good choice of puddings, all at very reasonable prices. Our room was, as advertised, quiet with very few audible bar sounds. Clun is not large but is very pleasant to walk around and has a few general purpose shops as well as antiques and curiosities. We would definitely stay there again.'

Perfect short break!
5 stars 5

'Thank you so much to the team at The White Horse Inn, Clun. They are such a friendly, helpful group of people, and made us and our two dogs (one of which was \"the Bear\"), very welcome. It is a perfect place to stay, especially if you have your dog(s) with you. We loved the area and plan to return at some time in the future. The food and service were also excellent. Thoroughly recommend. Our only negative comment, and this is not the fault of The White Horse Inn, is that our older dog struggled somewhat getting up the stairs to our room. Other than that, we would not hesitate to return to this brilliant hostelry! Once again, many thanks.'

'Stayed one night after walking the Switchback hills. The Inn was very friendly and comfortable. Unfortunately couldn\'t have a meal at the Inn because they were fully booked with a party so went down the road to the Three Tuns pub and had a lovely meal there. Good 2 night stay
4 stars 4

'We booked a room for 2 nights on the basis of some good reviews and as it was very reasonably priced, decided to give it a go. On arrival we were met by the cheerful bar staff and shown to our room. We had the Purple room which is a long room with a double and single bed, located at the front of the building, but in fact above the butchers shop next door! Although we could hear some of the pubs' customers sat outside, it didn't bother us at all and soon went quiet at shut tap anyway. The road outside can be quite busy first thing in the morning, but it is very quiet during the night. The room itself was clean and reasonably comfortable. The mattress on the bed wasn't the best i've ever slept on. A bit too soft and springy for us. The w.c was a macerator type and had a tendency to "start up" for a few seconds every now and again. You get used to it though and the shower decent enough. We ate downstairs in the dining room both evenings. The food is excellent and some very good ales on tap too ! Also worth mentioning the very good service from all the staff. Breakfast was fine too, my wife did leave a suggestion to include in the Full English, the homemade Black Pudding from the butchers next door ! If they take on board that suggestion, we might just come back.(I'd come back for the Clun Brewery ales anyway !) A very nice stay in a traditional olde pub with a good atmosphere to match.'

A Bad Night's Sleep
1 stars 1

'I was really looking forward to staying at the White Horse Inn, having booked it months before. I originally came across it by chance and loved the beer, brewed on site. We went for my birthday. Initially I was amused to see foam ear plugs on the bedside tables. Were these 'marital aids'. No. Apparently not. They were there to block out the noise of shouting and calling that seems to erupt at about 11pm and which goes on until about 1am. I think the noise comes from customers and staff alike, I'm not sure. What I do know is that I was woken from my sleep at midnight on Friday, about 11.30 pm on Saturday and 11pm on Sunday. I'm sure for those who want to stay up late and engage in shouting it would be an ideal venue. For those of us who wanted to sleep at night it wasn't. I would not recommend The Whiite Horse Inn to anyone for staying over. if I lived nearby I would be lobbying my councillor for the removal of it's licence due to noise nuisance. Next time I will stay at The Sun Inn.'

Accommodation Response

'I am sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay with us. We do try and warn people that we are a lively pub and that there is always something happening, a lot of our customers appreciate that we run an old style pub where people come out for a drink and enjoy themselves, rather than being a sterile food house. We make no illusions that we are anything else on our website, see http://www.whi-clun.co.uk/bed-&-breakfast there were also more people about as you did come over a lively bank holiday weekend. Different people have differing levels of noise tolerance and as you can see from our tripadvisor status a lot of people do like what we offer. I am sorry that it was not for you!'

'I just stayed one night, having had a day's hill-walking. The pub's a very friendly proper local with good pub grub and great beer. I'm a vegan and the landlord was very helpful and knowledgeable with regard to that, so I felt very welcome indeed! The room was nice, clean and comfy and an absolute bargain. As pointed out previously, the pub is a busy hub of the community so as my room was above the bar, of course sound from that came upstairs. This was no problem at all - I knew what I was coming to, and was in the bar most of the evening anyway. (there's earplugs provided if you need them). All in all, a great stay - I would recommend the White Horse and look forward to coming back soon.'
