Cotswolds way break
5 stars 5

'We arrived at the pub soaking wet after a massive rain fall. We were welcomed in and taken to our lovely roomy room at back of the pub where the heating was on for us. We booked in for an evening meal in the pub which was delicious and a great size, no room for desert. Breakfast was equally good with fruit, yogurt, cereal and a choice of cooked breakfasts. They were perfect hosts, a great stay and on the Cotswolds Way'

Absolutely love this place
5 stars 5

'A return visit after a stay back in the autumn. Such a welcoming place and the bedrooms are great. Nicely furnished and equipped. Much better and more characterful than the more \'uniform\' travel hotels. Very good evening menu as well - lots of variety, honestly presented and with such a friendly welcome from the staff. We overheard others in the bar saying how much they liked the atmosphere. If you want to avoid a place mainly populated by \'green wellies\' and Porsche drivers (sorry to all the nicer Porsche drivers - you know what I mean)or by screaming kids and adventure playgrounds, then this is it! Mind you, there\'s a lovely garden and I\'m sure they provide lots of stuff for kids - its just the \'themed\' thing I like to avoid. Also, I love the \'Anglo-Saxon\' tang of telling friends I stayed at the Dog in Old Sodbury! You can really get tour teeth into that! Such a good stay!'

'The Dog was a great location for a local wedding, and totally adequate rooms for our needs. The staff were more than welcoming and very generous with our needs and accommodated us brilliantly. Great Full English Breakfast, Bacon Butties and good pub grub in the evening. Great to see a local pub/inn well used and loved.'

A great place for a mini-break
4 stars 4

'If you want to enjoy the beautiful Cotswolds and stay in a friendly, hospitable, good old English pub, The Dog Inn is for you. A traditional breakfast will set you up for the day and, if you are a walker, the pub is right on the Cotswold Way. There\'s a huge choice of dishes on the menu plus some good ales/wines etc. It\'s a \'no frills\' sort of place, but very clean and welcoming with all a traveller could ask for. It\'s also very popular with the locals - especially for Sunday lunch carverys. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.'

'The room was large and well presented. Clean and tidy, and warm, after a cold day. The staff where welcoming in the bar, and our evening meal was excellent. The breakfast was a full English and again well presented. Despite the fact the rooms are to the side and aback of the pub there was no noise at all from the pub to be heard and it really was a quiet night.'

'After research, the B&B rates here were very competitive and the actual room was superb. Very characterful, with nice settee and antique furniture. Delighted all round and the range of food was also great, nicely cooked and promptly served. I liked the manager/owners as well - they were helpful and friendly without being too gushing or fussy. Overall, this rates highly for me and I\'m happy to give a strong recommendation.'

'My wife Maggie and I stayed at the Dog Inn for only one night on Saturday 6/8/2016. It was a very comfortable and clean ensuite bedroom. Brilliant stay at The Dog Inn
5 stars 5

'We stayed at The Dog Inn on 2nd September 2015 when walking the Cotswold Way. A really fantastic place to stay, lovely room and great food. My lasagne was served piping hot, and from the outset all the staff were friendly and attentive. Some of the other places we had stayed at on the Cotswold Way up to that point would do well to look at The Dog for inspiration! Highly recommended. Kim and Clare'

A Perfect Place to Stay
5 stars 5

'The Dog Inn was the penultimate stay on my 7 day walk of the Cotswolds Way from Chipping Campden to Bath and it was the best of all the guest houses, inns and b&b\'s that I used. Why? Above all because of the leadership style of the landlady. She was friendly, welcoming, but business like and efficient. Consequently, the staff were happy and productive. This resulted in a happy place where everything worked well: the food was excellent, the beer likewise, the atmosphere in the pub was super, and my room was comfortable, well appointed and immaculate. I would certainly recommend the Dog Inn as a great place to stay after a long day on the trail.'

Friendly with service that goes above and beyond
5 stars 5

'We stayed for one night at The Dog Inn at Old Sodbury when visiting friends in the area. I used to live nearby and had eaten here before, but not for many years, so it was a bit of a blast from the past to be back. We were travelling with our two dogs (Labradors) and so our choice of accommodation had been somewhat limited but we couldn\'t have asked for better. For the dogs, there is a secure grassy area where they can have a run and play with tennis balls, while their owners enjoy a drink from the bar. Having travelled a long way, they really enjoyed stretching their legs. The staff and owner were very welcoming to us all and went above and beyond with their customer service; even offering lifts for our friends when there were no taxis available. We enjoyed a delightful Sunday lunch in the pub before heading off to visit with friends and then came back to our accommodation later that evening. The room was very homely and furnished with lovely old pieces, making us feel very cosy and warm. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the duvet and pillows like sleeping on clouds. After a very quiet, relaxing night\'s sleep, we wandered over to the cottage across the road, where a full English breakfast was on the cards, including some gorgeously thick, tasty bacon. All in all, it was a very pleasant stay and we couldn\'t have asked for a warmer welcome from Joan and her staff, especially where our dogs were concerned. We will be staying again when we\'re next in the area.'

A wonderful first night in the UK
5 stars 5

'We had accidentally booked for a Thursday evening, but were actually arrived on Friday. Everyone was very gracious about our mistake and we quickly settled into a very nice room with a firm bed in a very quiet village setting only 1 hour west of London and 10 minutes east of Bristol, near Bath. The Pub attached to the Inn served an excellent variety of gourmet meals. I had delicious mussels (they serve them several different ways) and my wife, who is a vegetarian had an outstanding nut loaf that I even enjoyed a lot too! We highly recommend this village Inn for a wonderful time in the UK!'

Good but could be better
4 stars 4

'We stayed at The Dog Inn after paying a visit for a meal a couple of weeks earlier and being impressed with the friendly staff, great service and excellent food. Our room was clean and well furnished with everything provided that we could have wished for, although our bed was not really very comfortable. One of the reasons for choosing a pub environment was that neither of us are particularly comfortable in traditional bed and breakfast establishments and so we were disappointed that we had to make a trip across the road to the cottage for breakfast where we were expected to share a large table with 5 strangers. My husband can only eat white bread but there was none avail for toast, neither was there an option of anything else other than butter which is another no no for him. I do not eat a cooked breakfast but was not given the option so felt embarrassed when it was served anyway. However, my husband said it was well cooked, fresh and very tasty. It would just have been nice to have been able to have our own table and a more varied choice.'
