'I stayed at The Hundred of Ashenden the night before my wedding at Notley Abbey, with my 3 bridesmaids. We had an amazing evening, with lovely food and were made to feel so welcome. One of us was gluten free and the kitchen was extremely accommodating with our requests. As it was my wedding the next day, I stayed in the family room so it was big enough for all of us when the hair & make up artist arrived early in the morning, and the staff were so helpful showing her the way and bringing us all up breakfast & drinks whilst we were getting ready! I would definitely stay here again and can\'t recommend it enough - both the B&B and the restaurant. Thank you so much for making the night before my wedding so wonderful!'

A lovely stay
4 stars 4

'We had a very friendly welcome at this charming old Inn which is in a lovely quiet location. The rooms were fresh, clean and comfortable, I had a double room for single occupancy and it was perfect for one, maybe a little on the cozy side if there had been two of us sharing. Breakfast was freshly cooked and plentiful with fresh brewed coffee, tea, juice etc. I would certainly return for another stay if in the area but if you can\'t live without phone connection or wifi you might struggle, not a problem for us though :)'

'My aunt and I stayed at The Hundred of Ashendon for one night and had a wonderful stay. Staff were attentive, flexible, friendly and most accommodating. The rooms were lovely, spacious, clean and fresh - with one tiny downside of the temperature of the shower! Either very hot or very cold! But that is a minor gripe. The food was wonderful - with a chef willing to accommodate our wishes, and the prices very reasonable. Overall our stay was great value for money and I will absolutely be paying another visit.'

'We had booked a meal at Waddesdon Manor and had heard about the Hundred of Ashendon as a place to stay overnight. We could not have been made more welcome, after having a light lunch we were shown to the room, which was clean, nicely decorated and light. It was well heated and comfortable. The team were very helpful in booking a reliable transport for us to and from Waddesdon. The breakfast was excellent, well presented and included quality locally sourced ingredients. The menu for the restaurant looked very interesting. I would highly recommend the venue; the reception and help we received from the entire team made our weekend very relaxing.'

'\'Rather nice\' doesn\'t do the \'Hundred\' any justice. It is a rare pleasure to come across an establishment set in such a rural setting that can cater for its locals and guests and make them both feel welcome. Small cosy bar area, with similar attached restaurant. Friendly hard working staff, relaxed atmosphere, food and wine exceptional and fairly priced. Room was fine, breakfast excellent. Easy with a dash of panache
4 stars 4

'This pub with rooms felt like it was in the middle of nowhere, which is just what we wanted. Whilst our room wasn\'t 4 star and was accessed by a door round the back of the pub, it was warm and clean, with a bath and plenty of hot water, telly and wifi - home from home really. To the left of the entrance is a bar with log fire, to the right the cosy restaurant. This where Matt, a local of the area, owner and chef, excels. Food was, on the face of it, fairly simple but delicious and Matt and staff work hard to please while appearing quietly professoinal. Ingredients are sourced locally and Matt\'s love and dedication shine through his cooking. Brown prawn with shredded celeriac and capers starter Breakfast the next morning was laid back, a perfect, well presented full English with coffee from a proper Italian Espresso machine. Such an easy, pleasant stay with extra care. Simple and relaxing, with a dash of panache. Ate, drank, slept. Thanks Matt for a memorable stay.'

'Matt and Pia and the team are doing a great job establishing a reputation for a must-go-to destination gastro-pub. The service is friendly and attentive without being \'in-your-face\' and the food is fab! I love the stylish-yet-quirky decor - a sort-of industrial chic with Bo-Ho vintage feel. The location isn\'t one you\'d stumble upon but the views are spectacular and there\'s good walking and lots to see locally so it\'s ideal from an \'away-from-it-all\' break - especially if good food and wine are important to your enjoyment. 'This was a gem of a find. The friendliness of everyone was incredible. The food was delicious & unusual, although breakfast could do with a bit more ..... other options like smoked salmon & scrambled egg, haddock & the like would have made this place a hair short of perfect. Although for a short stay, cooked English is acceptable & this version was bang on. There are walks direct from the pub, and with Winnie the Pooh haunting the hills, what more could anyone want? Staff were very friendly and helpful.'

'Lovely location but didn't have time to sample interesting menu. All fine with greater potential once rooms updated to match the upbeat bar and restaurant feel good factor.'

Great nights sleep
5 stars 5

'Great breakfast and coffee, room was very clean and spacious and slept really well. One minor issue was the lack of mirror in the bedroom (only one in bathroom) and was difficult to apply make up/ do hair in steamed up mirror after shower. Like I said really minor point and would definitely stay with you again if we are in the area'

A good as usual

'I have stayed at The Hundred on three different occasions and am always pleased I made the decision to book. The rooms have been improved and are now individually decorated and comfortable. The food cannot be faulted, both for breakfast and dinner. I will definitely be staying again in the near future.'

'Stayed a night here in this very pleasant hotel and restaurant. The room was clean, well appointed and comfy. The food of a very high quality. The only thing to improve on was the electric shower went cold to boiling over and over again'

'Charming country pub set in a very rural location.Exellent food served by attentive staff. We stayed in the twin bedded room which has been refurbished and it was very comfortable, only problem you can not access the rooms from the pub,you have to use a door at the rear of the building but you get used to it'

Lovely Stay
4 stars 4

'We stayed at the Hundred and were very happy with the room and the welcome we received. The breakfast was as good as any I have had and it was a shame that we couldn't eat in the restaurant in the evening as we were there for a wedding.I shall be recommending it to our friends who live nearby. We were driven to the venue by the Hundred's resident driver who could not have been more helpful. £55 inc. tip for the journey there and back hurt a bit but a necessary expense as we wanted to be able to drink and it was a fair way away. It would have been unlikely to have got another taxi at that location and time of night.'

Good location, great food!

'Second time I had stayed here and the changes show. The room was a lot tidier having been recently painted, and looked much more inviting. Evening meal was excellent, worth a visit on it's own!'

Delightful!
5 stars 5

'A charming place and such friendly, welcoming landlord and staff! I thought that I would get that in first having read the diatribe by someone on Trip Advisor as a more charming host and staff you could not meet! The place is spotlessly clean full of charm and in a great location! We stayed on a Sunday night and were planning on dining there but luckily one of the staff member took the time to call us to explain that the restaurant is closed on Sunday evenings and Mondays, which was a shame as we had heard great things about the food there, but we all need time off and with the advanced warning we were able to book in elsewhere for dinner. The entrance to the rooms is via the back door (past the kitchen and stores - not ideal as it is not overly welcoming but if the doors to both were kept shut it would be more appealing) We stayed in room 3 which was tastefully decorated with a compact en-suite and again spotlessly clean. The room was quite a good size for an old building and we had a great nights sleep. We will be back to sample the menu and urge you to ignore the strange Trip Adviser rant as I seriously think that she must have stayed at a different place to us as we loved it!'

EXCELLENT
5 stars 5

'The nicest place! We chose this place as we were attending a wedding in notley tythe barn - I didn't have much expectation about the place having chosen last minute mainy based on proximity, however on arrival we were met by the manager who could not have been more helpful, over and far beyond what I would have expected - including arranging taxis to and from the wedding saving us a lot of hassle. Rooms are quite basic, however the pub itself is gorgeous and the breakfast was DELICIOUS which more than makes up for it. Would highly recommend to anyone. (The lovely taxi driver was great and incredibly forgiving of my rather drunk friend) x'

Late booking
4 stars 4

'My husband and I did a last minute booking. Stayed for a Friday evening with a view to taking advantage of the beautiful scenery and expected good weather to spend the following day walking. Everyone was very friendly and helpful ( not only the staff and owner but a local or two while we waited to check in as we were a little early arriving) and the food was excellent both on the Friday evening and the following morning. The breakfast that came with the booking in particular was outstanding and a very generous portion. Whilst off the beaten track it is quaint and in a beautiful location. There are lots of walks that pass that way. Definitely would consider another visit.'

it wouldn't take much
3 stars 3

'I have delayed reviewing this Inn as I hate being negative about accommodation when the staff there are so superb. Had we not arrived at 8pm on a Sunday night, we would have turned around and looked for alternative accommodation. Only one room has been refurbished which was already occupied - we did ask for a better room. Room 3 was do disappointing - wallpaper hanging off the wall, curtain pelmet barely hanging on and furniture so dated. On the plus side, the linen and towels were immaculate. The barmaid was delightful; the couple who cooked and served us breakfast 0 I believe the managers - were superlative - professional, friendly, efficient and a truly brilliant breakfast. Perhaps the owners would like to just buy a pot of paint and tidy up the rooms - I suspect the others are in the same state. It wouldn't take much and the location is great. Much praise again to the staff. They really make the Inn. kind regards, Linda'

Accommodation Response

'We appreciate you taking the time to feed back your comments to us and to be honest we agree with you. This is why we specifically point out on our website that the rooms have not YET been refurbished to our standard and taste. There are photographs online of the rooms which we took ourselves so it's surprising that it was such a shock to you what they were like. We only took on this project about 10 months ago and unlike other large pub companies we don't have a million pound backing. This is our family business, and we are doing everything ourselves. If we did have a huge budget we would have completely re done all the rooms at the same time. It frustrates us that we can't, but it takes much more than a coat of paint to refurbish them to our standard, hence why it's taking time to do each room, properly. We have focused our efforts on the downstairs in order to get the restaurant up and running. If you’d seen the state of the building we took on you’d understand why it’s been a grueling effort to get it to where it is now. But it's great to hear that the bits we have concentrated on you did enjoy. The food, and the staff. It makes us happy to know that the bits we’ve done, we’ve done them right! In time the other rooms will be completely refurbished, but if it was as easy as just a coat of paint, believe us we would have done it by now! We hope that you can see beyond the room and visit us again in the future. Kind regards Matt and Pia'

An all-round great experience
5 stars 5

'We stayed at The Hundred as we were attending a wedding in nearby Long Crendon and the whole experience was very positive. We had a light lunch before heading off to the church and cannot recommend the food enough. We had homemade bread and some salads that were to die for! Taxis were arranged to and from the wedding and the driver, Peter, was very friendly and flexible when we wanted to alter the return time. Breakfast was another treat! We are keen to return to explore the area and sample some more of the food. We would highly recommend The Hundred to anyone who enjoys good food and is looking for a relaxing place to stay in the area.'

Friendly people, but decor is a bit tired.
3 stars 3

'We stayed at the Hundreds overnight as we were attending a wedding nearby. Our room had very tired décor. It's an old building and there were big damp patches on the bedroom wall and 80's style borders and curtains. Having said that, everything was clean and the bed was comfortable - a shame because a fresh coat of paint, new curtains and a few tasteful pictures would make all the difference. The Hundreds is in an beautiful location in the middle of the countryside and would be perfect for walkers. The owners are very friendly and helpful and organised a taxi for us to and from the wedding. The cooked breakfast was delicious - all good quality ingredients and beautifully cooked and presented.'

TALE OF TWO EXPERIANCES
3 stars 3

'A TALE OF TWO EXPERIANCES,THE HUNDRED IS SET IN A LOVELY LOCATION IN A SMALL HAMLET OF ROLLING AYLESBURY COUNTRYSIDE, THE PUB AND RESTURANT WHERE WARM AND WELCOMING AND THE FOOD WAS LOVELY, SOME OF THE BEST FISH I HAVE HAD IN A LONG TIME. MY OVERNIGHT STAY WAS HORRENDOUS, I WENT TO MY ROOM AROUND 10PM FOR A VERY EARLY START AND WAS WOKEN AROUND MIDNIGHT BY THE BASHING AND GRASHING FROM THE RESTURANT, I HAD THE WORST NIGHT SLEEP I HAVE EVER HAD, THE ROOM WAS VERY BASIC AND DIRTY, YOU NEED TO SPEND THE MONEY TO MAKE THE ROOMS AS GOOD AS THE RESTURANT, PLEASE ACCEPT THIS AS A CONSTRUCTIVE CRITISM AS I ALWAYS WOULD WANT TO HELP AND WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO RECOMMEND YOU.'

Accommodation Response

'Hi, Firstly huge apologies for your terrible nights sleep. There was an accident in the kitchen where the entire light fell from the ceiling and had to be fixed before the next day. It's not normally that noisy, so we are hugely sorry for that. And we completely agree about the rooms. That's why we've written on the website that the rooms are not up to our standards and taste just yet, but they will be soon. We've undertaken a huge project, and can only do the rooms one at a time. One room is already done, just 4 more to go! I hope you'll still recommend us and consider staying again. Best wishes.'

'An easy to get to, rural, historic pub serving excellent quality food and drink. The rooms are of the era, with very clean bedding and towels. The location is both beautiful and quiet. If you feel like treating yourself, this is the place.'
