Pleasantly surprising - left very happy
4 stars 4

'I usually book rooms at chain hotels such as Holiday Inn because even though they're budget hotels, at least there's that set standard so I'm always a little apprehensive when booking non-chain budget accommodation such as this as you really can't tell from a website what your room is actually going to be like. I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised; the staff were friendly, the breakfasts were huge and tasty, the room and bathroom were good sizes and most importantly of all for me, it was clean. It's an old place and the furniture is dated but that's just aesthetics. We were very comfortable staying at the Hadrian Lodge Hotel and if we need to go back to the area in the future we'd definitely stay again.'

Hadrian Lodge Hotel
4 stars 4

'I stayed at the Hadrian Lodge Hotel for two nights in July at the start of my hike across the Hadrian's Wall Path trail and found it to be very convenient, accommodating, and everything that I could ask for. The location, just across the street from the Metro train station and 1/2 mile (or less) from the start of Hadrian's Wall Path was excellent and very convenient for my needs - particularly as I was an American newcomer to Newcastle. Meals in the restaurant were fine and the beer on tap, cold and tasty. I would stay there anytime in the future and would recommend it (and have already) to anyone hiking the trail or staying in the area. Bill Prindiville - Friendswood, Texas USA'

Good VfM
3 stars 3

'The hotel is really quite good. The place is kept clean and the people there are friendly and helpful. The furniture and fittings are much as you would expect for the price. Functional but not classy. My only real grouse is the mattress was really old, tired and flabby. The 'continental' breakfast is more than adequate; cereal, yoghurt, grapefruit and toast (although you can order a full English which is extra). The location is good too, right outside Hadrian Wall metro station. The setting is not so attractive but it is a good base to travel from.'

'Our room was clean and comfortable, with TV and plenty of sockets for plugging in laptops and phones. Evening meal was good and reasonably priced. The price of £55 for 2 people for one night, including a decent continental breakfast, was great value. This hotel is not for you if you want total luxury in the centre of Newcastle, but if you are looking for a real bargain, this is it. The hotel is right beside Hadrian Road Metro station, so handy if you don't want to drive into the city centre. It is also near the Tyne Tunnel and the start of Hadrian's Wall at Segedunum. Last but certainly not least, I have to mention the friendly welcome given by the staff. We will be back.'

'We have stayed here several times now as it is one of the cheapest and more convenient hotels in Newcastle. Definitely could benefit from some redecoration which I could see was happening already.
