'We would recommend Torbay to anyone. After an exasperating afternoon in the traffic, we enjoyed Derek's hospitality and tips on restaurants we could walk to. The Victorian neighborhood (with its history of B&Bs because of the train station) is a pleasure to walk, and Internet is free at the public library with a temporary membership.'

'We stayed here for one Saturday night while at a wedding in Dumfries. Torbay Lodge was first rate. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. The ensuite was a bit small, but they always are in these older houses. I inadvertently left a jacket there which was returned to me promptly by the proprietor. He even trusted me to repay the postal cost which he paid upfront. Not all would do this. Highly recommended.'

'very peaceful relaxing stay at torbay lodge,lovely owners and also very relaxed.we didnt have our room cleaned or towels changed for the weekend stay this was our choice due to us not wanting to be disturbed.the owners were fully respectful of this which made me feel very at ease and relaxed.great breakfast plenty of choice really liked the idea of filling the menu request in the night before with also the time on do you knew what time to come down.decor was neutral and the house was very clean lovely clean toilet and shower area ( always important ;-) ) overall would return and plenty of info given both verbally on the local area and places to go and also brochures available. took advice to visit The Cavern pub which was very nice.'

'The Host and Hostess were wonderful. Our room was immaculate,and so was the bathroom (although it was on the small side). Towels were large and fluffy, beds had comfy linens and the breakfast was delicious. The owners made us feel like a part of their family and even took care of our laundry after we arrived very late in the evening. Nothing was any trouble for them. We wish them terrific success in the future and if we ever get back to Dumfries, we will definitely stay with them again!'

'Arrived with four friends on motorbikes, stayed Sunday 22nd May & Monday 23rd May 2011. Suzie and Derek made us all feel very welcome. 'Want to say a huge and massive thankyou to Suzzy & Derek. While in Scotland my aged mum slipped and broke her hip ending up in Dumfries hospital for a prolonged stay, 200 miles from home. My Dad (82) stayed with Suzzy and Derek during that time and they were just brilliant sorting him out with accomodation in the first place, making he sure he was safe and even helping with his washing etc. Sooooo much assisstance for a complete stranger.
