'Excellent overnight stay. Very clean with spacious accommodation and good choices at breakfast. The hotel's large car park a big plus point due to very limited car parking in the area.'

'Stopped for a couple of nights. Seemed to be catering for contractors by the number of vans in the car park but they were up and out to work and i always got space. Well situated - good clean room - I got a twin tho only paying for single - good breakfast. I wanted to try local pubs and hit on the Grove by accident - great recomend it. Closer by Sankeys and surprisingly the Royal Wells have good beer.'

'This is the third time I have stayed at the hotel and I really like it. I always have the same room at the top, it is quiet and has everything I require. Good tv with lots of stations, nice bathroom with hot power shower. Comfortable double bed and big towels. Tea/coffee and kettle provided. The hotel is close to the center for shopping and close to my sisters house near the pantiles.'

'The Hotel was very close to everything. And the area felt very safe. The room was clean but it wasnt really that nice like the receptionist made it sound. And the breakfast was a little bit boring. To many employees in the breakfast area, standing upside down starring at eating guest. Improve the buffe instead.'

'Great location. Lovely hotel, friendly staff. Pleased with room given to me, very comfortable. Hotel was a lovely standard and I had a pleasant stay. The only down side was a very small car park which I couldn't park in and the roads outside were full and permit parking.'

'This was our 4th visit to The Russell which seems to have become a yearly event... Its warm and dry, and a good base. Needs a lick of paint and some new light bulbs.. but apart from that its fine... Always a brilliant breakfast!!'

'I found the staff extremely friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and clean with good quality towels etc. Unfortunately the hotel appeared very shabby and in definite need of a facelift, including the grounds. I was disappointed there was no restaurant as per the website as when travelling alone I like to dine in. I wanted to put 3 out of 5 below but it seems to be stuck on 1!'

'The hotel is in a great location and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The rooms are run down and the hotel in general is in need of a huge renovation. If this was a low cost hotel we would be rating it a lot higher however, it is expensive for what it is. Quirky rooms, in need of TLC, limited parking and a mediocre breakfast are never a problem when the whole package offers value for money, however, for what you get you pay a lot.'

'This place was incredibly shabby, old fashioned and very overpriced considering what you get for your money. For £75 for a double room we expected something of at least average quality. We were very disappointed and would definitely not stay here again.'

'Thank you for your care during our stay over the nights of 17/18 August. You are fortunate that you have a certain amount of off-street parking, whuch we were able to make use of for one night. I completely understand the problem with parking in a busy place like Tun-W. I suggest that Hoteliers such as yourself collaborate with the council in arranging for street parking permits which would give overnight permits valid for the period of stay and up to 10 a.m. only; most travellers will have moved on by then and it would remove a concern from your guests about moving their car by 8.00 Ken Munday'

'The hotel is in a convenient location for the town centre although, for rooms at the front of the building, there is quite a lot of noise from the road and the bar at night. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and the decor is a little old but acceptable for the price. The breakfast is generous and substantial.'

'I was a little disappointed with my recent stay. The hotel did not meet my expectations having read the website. I stayed in a suite in the annex, the decoration was tired and the room could have benefited from a thorough clean. The shower cubicle and surrounding area had mould growing. There was a hole in the ceiling above the bath through which something resembling mushroom shapes appeared on the final morning! The restaurant and reception were clean and the staff were very accomodating.'

'Defintely an older style hotel with 70's decor and no lift, whose bar area could do with a bit of an upgrade, but we had very comfortable one night Saturday stay in large bedroom with big windows and lots of light & ensuite bath, with proper homecooked breakfast thrown in. The Proprietors don't pretend this is a 5* modern hotel, but it is spotless, in the centre of town, with a bonus of a private carpark and a staff which could not me hospitable. We would stay again.'

'Room was clean & tidy with adequate towels & bath/shower stuff. TV reception was poor for all 5 channels. Several of the tables in the resturant were not cleared when I arrived for breakfast - one family cleared their table themselves before the waiter arrived. But overall it was good value for the money my firm paid!'

'when I started booking a hotel I had known that I was going to arrive sometime late at night. Or Should I say early in the morning. 2:00 a.m. to be exact. So I booked at the Russel accordingly. I received a confirmation letter, stating that I am welcomed at the mentioned time in the arrival day. Amazingly when I arrived, I was told that all the rooms were booked, and the policy was always to check in at 2:00. Not to make the story long, I had to travel 30 miles away to find another hotel. Well, you can calculate the damage. However, they let me use the phone to call tens of hotels till I could find one.'

'Comfortable B&B stay in a very convenient location, an easy 5-minute walk to Calverley Road, the Royal Victoria shops and numerous places to dine. Scenic location by the Common - my stay in late June featured swifts screaming and wheeling around the bedroom window and a turtle dove calling in the morning. Very good value for Tunbridge Wells with the added benefit of a small private car park.'

'The Russell Hotel was a good base for us to travel around. The hotel rooms were large, the decor was a little old and shabby but more than comfortable. The breakfast was more than enough, infact the portions were very large indeed! As a constructive critisism, maybe cut down the quantity of b/fast and save the money to renovate the rooms. We went to London after The Russell and the b/fast there was half the size and selection! The BEST of all was the staff. friendly, informative and efficient. I cannot praise them more. Jay was GREAT, did everything to make our stay comfortable , helpful, polite and get's 10 out of 10 from us. Thanks we will stay agin if we should come to TBW'

'Do not be put off by the external appearance of the hotel. Although areas of the hotel are looking 'tired' there has been recent investment in the reception area and dining room. Tired bar are and bedrooms are more than made up for by the quality of the laundry both beds and towels but more particularly by the attention of the staff both day and night reception/porter but more particularly the efficency and courtesy of the dining room and kitchen staff which could not be faulted. The breakfasts were well cooked and very presentable. Value for money - definately at £32 per night/per person including breakfast for a triple room'

'we chose the Russell as it was close to my mother's house. Our room was large and clean and the beds comfortable. Breakfast was good. there are several reasons though why I would not return 1.there was nowhere to park. We had a very small car and usually there was no space in the tiny carpark behind the hotel.I'm quite good at getting a car into a small space but usually there was nowhere --- made worse by the fact that it looked like the hotel was renting out carpark space to contractors to park their vans. We had to park far away and walk, 2. the wonderful girl in the dining room was the only employee who ever smiled or made you feel welcome. All the others were dour. We left a day early. 3.most of the time oou internet didn't work iin our room. I had to go to sit in reception to get a constant signal that didn't keep shutting off. 4. it was too hard to carry cases up all the stairs and there was noone who offered to help.'

'We really enjoyed our stay at The Russell Hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. It was good to have a large room as this was our final two nights before flying home and we had lots of sorting to do as we repacked our bags. This was a good central point for lots of sightseeing and of course we were able to go to the ukulele concert. Parking for the car and free wireless made this a great place to stay. Thanks for two great days.'
