'I treated my niece and her son to 2 nights here as it is only a short walk from where I live myself - the towels were lovely and white, fresh and fluffy - the beds were comfortable - she said her breakfasts were substantial and attention was paid to her welfare during her stay - being so very close to town was a huge plus for her and she loved the short walk to the River with her son - it was important for me for her to feel and be safe in a homely environment and that was our experience - she would definitely stay here again should she return from Australia to see me'

'We arrived at the Lord Lister and was greeted with congratulations, flowers and a hand written card from the staff at the hotel,we were made to feel very welcomed, the room was beyond anything either of us expected with a lovely en suite bathroom, fantastic nights sleep with another warm greeting the next morning at breakfast. The Full English Breakfast is one of the tastiest we have had in a while. All the staff were very accommodating and polite, the flower garden for us smokers was stunning by night and fragrant by day. Comfy, friendly nice place
4 stars 4

'A good location within easy walking distance of everything you might need in Hitchin. A friendly and warm welcome from the proprietors and a lovely breakfast. Bed was comfy and the room was warm and clean - as was the bathroom. My only niggle was I\'m not sure what made our room an executive (for which we paid an extra £10 a night)as it seemed to be the same size as the normal double rooms and we did see a much larger room (opposite) and presumed this was an executive - perhaps it was because I requested a room at the back of the hotel to keep us off the room - which is what was provided and did give us a quiet and peaceful stay.'

A little gem
5 stars 5

'We had recently moved out of the area and were back again last weekend to hand over our rental property in Letchworth, catch up with family and collect the cat. So we booked up at the Lord Lister Hotel to stay overnight on Saturday. The hotel is in a historic building with a quirky layout and we enjoyed this. It was very clean and well cared for. Our room was in the front of the hotel facing the road but although we could hear traffic noises from outside we had a good night as the accommodation was warm and comfortable with everything we might need in the way of toiletries and tea, coffee and biscuits, laid on and a reasonable sized ensuite with shower. The hotel does not do evening meals, however there are many different eateries in the area within five minutes walk and you can show your room key at certain ones and receive a discount. We very much enjoyed our breakfast which was beautifully cooked, presented and served by a lovely waitress who made sure we had everything we needed, and there was plenty of choice, and choice of cereals with gluten free/lactose intolerance catered for with different cereals and milk. The experience was enhanced by the thoughtful way everything was laid out in the dining room and on the table. We hope to return at some stage when we are in the area overnight and would certainly recommend this hotel to family and friends.'

'It was particularly good to be part of a group attending a reunion of people who had served in Liberia fifty years ago. I apologise for all of us causing such chaos in the dining room at breakfast this morning. Your staff were very patient with us - and didn\'t appear to mind too much. I was delighted to have chosen the Lord Lister to stay in. I selected \'single male\'; I am, however married; it\'s simply that my wife, not knowing any of those at the reunion, chose to remain at home.'

When I replaced the front windows 9 years ago I tried ever so hard to get the listed authority's to allow me to change to double glaze, but they would not let me, we had to replayed them like for like. as we are a grade 2 listing. but at least the windows do not rattle now in the wind.'

Lord Lister
5 stars 5

'We stayed at the Lord Lister for four nights in September for a family wedding. The Lord Lister Hotel was a wonderful, centrally located place to stay. It has the friendly feel of a B & B rather than a hotel. The hotel has a rich history and the rooms are quaint and extremely clean and well kept. Hosts, Nick and Josie were very helpful in giving directions, recommending eating places and calling taxis for all of us. Breakfasts were hot and made to order which was especially welcome after being on the road in Great Britain for 12 days and eating luke warm hotel buffet breakfasts. The Lord Lister is a little over a mile from the train station and there is easy access to London, Cambridge and other locations. I would recommend the Lord Lister to anyone traveling in the area.'
