'BASIL!!! need we say more.. rude, unwelcoming and a very strange bunch alltogether. We were supposed to stay for 2 nights but were asked to leave after breakfast on the 1st morning - i believe for asking for porridge, next time we visit Hastings we will go to Brighton.'

'At Fairlight Lodge Hotel, the customer always comes first - it certainly did not feel that way Being told I couldn't have any toast because I talked too much and ate too slow was a surprise . . . ! We were left in a squalid heap of soiled plates . . . I think it was because tradition dictated that everyone had to finish before they could be cleared away . . . ? When I asked for tea I was told I couldn't have any . . . However on balance provided you kowtow to the staff and mind your P's and Q's it is an excellent venue and very good value for money . . . I doubt that I shall be welcome under the present ownership The waitress kept referring to her father . . . perhaps he owns the place which is where she got her sense of entitlement from and why she felt it was appropriate to be obstinate to paying guests and to strike them'
