Comfortable and friendly upmarket pub
5 stars 5

'We stayed at the Original Rosslyn Inn en route to Ikea Edinburgh which is a convenient 8 mins drive away, but discovered a gem in a beautiful location. It is a lovely old (dog-friendly) pub in a village perfected situated only a couple of minutes walk from the famous Rosslyn Chapel and right beside beautiful walks along a river and through woods. Our room was comfortable and of a good size, well decorated and with a few thoughtful extras, the staff were helpful and friendly, the food a little grander than decent pub fare but reasonably priced. We would happily stay there again.'

5 stars 5

'An utterly lovely and delightful Inn. I would recommend a stay for all seasons. The locals in the bar could not be more helpful and friendly. The residents bar was also amazing. We breakfast before the fire. The breakfast was lavish and filling. I would also recommend staying if you are visiting the chapel. Knowing you are staying at this wonderful inn affords a more leisurely time at the chapel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. THANK YOU.'

'We were a group of six adults travelling and had arrived straight to The Original Rosslyn Hotel from a flight from the other side of the world. We had a lovely time. The owner is friendly and helpful and the breakfasts filling and yummy, and the rooms warm and cosy. It is the location that for us was the best. The 2 minute walk up the lane to the chapel and glen and surrounding area meant we were never far away from the things we wanted to see and could nip back easily to grab anything we needed. There is also a cute pub and a restaurant at the Original Rosslyn Hotel which made our stay even better. Recommend it thoroughly.'

A visit to friends
4 stars 4

'A small hotel pleasing to look at from the front and a car park at the rear. We booked the small double (room 4) as we were only staying for two nights. The buses did stop right outside the window but did not bother us unduly. The room is small but adequate. You have to turn the sink hot water tap on for a minute to get hot water but it does come. The shower is a normal electric shower, its ok. I wish the bed had a better mattress but other than that the room was ok. The food in the hotel was very good, we had an evening meal with our friends and all of us enjoyed it.Breakfast was good and set you up for the day. All the staff we met were very welcoming and friendly. I would go back to stay but perhaps have a bigger room next time.'

'The hotel is a nice little one, but a little bit too far from Edinburgh city. We are a family of 4 and the room was too small. 'We stayed at the hotel as we were at the University Open Day. We wanted something local to the Veterinary School which was close to Roslin. We arrived early and the rooms were not ready but this was not a problem for the staff. We had a drink in the bar and before we had finished the rooms were available. The staff were very friendly and helpful with us. The rooms were clean and had everthing we needed in them. The breakfast the next day was adequate and everything we wanted. We cannot fault anything with the hotel. Getting into the city was very straight forward as there was a bus that stopped outside the hotel and took you straight into the city centre. Overall an excellent stay and would defenitely stop there again in the future.'

Comfort and History Wrapped up in one.
5 stars 5

'During our four nights at the Original Rosslyn Inn, we felt completely at home. We thoroughly enjoyed the staff who went beyond the call of duty to assist us. . One extra was having a full size bottle of lotion, something many places leave out. The surprise is how convenient this location is to Rosslyn Chapel...a short walk away…yet easy access to Edinburgh. Bus #37 stops right outside the door and takes you all the way to Waverly station in the heart of Edinburgh. The stop on the way back is just across the street. With this location, one can easily get by without a car. The rooms are clean and supplied with coffee, tea and cookies The food is excellent and we ended every day with a meal or dessert in the cozy lounge bar that was once a petrol station. This is a comfortable “home away from home” with a couple hundred years of history!'

Friendly, clean and comfortable
4 stars 4

'We stayed here, for the first time, for four nights in November, whilst visiting family in the area. We were met on arrival and our bags taken to our room, up a short but steep and narrow staircase. The room was clean and spacious, with double aspect windows. No warning about step up into bathroom. Only two socket outlets at floor level but extension cable provided. Room quite dark despite side lamps, but quite light in middle of the night because of external lights above the windows. This hotel is an inn and hosts live music and functions, so some noise is inevitable on such occasions. It has only a small car park and one night we had to park on the road in a residential area, some distance away. Staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast was excellent. The hotel was not very busy whilst we were there, apart from one night, so we have no experience of it when full. No one on duty when we checked out, but on finding the cleaner, she had been told that all guests had paid. We were unaware that our credit card had been charged on the day of arrival. There are very few hotels in this area and we would stay here again.'

No selves for toiletries. Saw dog hairs on the stairs but didn\'t realise this was a \'dog friendly\' hotel. Overall enjoyed our stay and would definitely eat here again IF in the area but would perhaps pick a hotel with larger rooms - realise there is nothing that could be done about size owing the fact that this is an old hotel.'

The service was great, very personal and prompt service at breakfast. We also loved the bar, where we spent much time enjoying drinks and meals. Would definitely recommend to others, and will likely stay there again when visiting relatives nearby.'

'We stayed at the hotel with two children aged 11 & 13. the room was clean, and comfortable. We eat in the holtel for one evening. The menue is good pub grub. All the staff were friendly thou we did have a wait a while at the reception to hand over / collect keys and book out as the staff were manning the bar. Overall I would recommend this hotel.'

'Lovely friendly hotel. Rooms were clean, comfortable and more than adequate for our needs. Very helpful and friendly staff who were always polite and courteous. The inclusive breakfasts were amazing. Great menu selection! Food was well presented and cooked to perfection. The Scottish breakfasts filled us up for the day! Lunch and dinner menus offered so much we were spoiled for choice. Family run hotel offering good value for money in a convenient location for visiting the Rosslyn Chapel and surrounding countryside. Very welcoming
4 stars 4

'We chose this hotel as it was a good stopping off point to see family and going further north. We also had a dog. We found the hotel very welcoming , easy to stay there with a dog, easy to walk the dog from the hotel. The food was excellent, our dinner on the first night was imaginative and plentiful. The breakfasts are mammoth. We weren't disturbed by any street noise inspite of being in the town , the car parking made life easy. All in all we would recommend this hotel as a good place to break and take time to see local sights and also easy to reach Edinburgh.'

Great Breakfast
4 stars 4

'An excellent range of breakfasts and mine was of very good quality and generous portions. The evening meal was huge and very tasty also. The bedroom was nice and the duvet was very snuggly indeed. A lovely location if you are visiting the chapel which is truly superb. There were a few times we thought service was a bit eccentric but this is a rural reasonably priced hotel not a city one so we didn't mind too much. Would stay again though.'

Another enjoyable stay

'Again we had a very nice, comfortable room. The staff are very welcoming and nothing seems to be too much trouble. The food is delicious and portions generous. It is great to be able to bring our 2 dogs and we are most grateful that the hotel accommodates them. It made for a very relaxing short break. The hotel's proximity to the Roslin Chapel and the beautiful walks that surround it are an added bonus.'

An enjoyable stay; good value for money
5 stars 5

'We chose this hotel as we wanted to stay in a village location close to Edinburgh and with easy access to the Pentland Hills. It was perfect; quiet but friendly, with excellent facilities and a good atmosphere. The room was pleasant and comfortable, and the breakfast was excellent. We also had an evening meal in the hotel's 'gastro-pub' and thought this was very good too. The beautiful Rosslyn Chapel is just a short walk from the hotel, and is well worth a visit. All in all, very satisfied with our experience.'

A perfect Easter break at The Original Rosslyn Hotel
5 stars 5

'My boyfriend and I have just spent our Easter weekend at The Original Rosslyn Hotel and we honestly couldn't have asked for more! Our room was small but very cosy - the perfect base for our planned day trips - and the staff were all very friendly and helpful (especially the lovely lad behind the bar who delivered Baileys Coffees to us via room service each night!) The food in this hotel is unbelievably good! I can highly recommend the English Poacher breakfast (poached eggs, toast, mushrooms and bacon - yum!) and the slightly more pricey meals at The Grail Restaurant are well worth every penny! The hotel is ideally located close to Roslin Chapel (a must see!) as well as other lovely historical places such as Traquair House. We definitely hope to stay here again on our next trip to Scotland! Many thanks to the staff for a lovely weekend away!'

Cosy pub

'The staff here are very friendly, obliging and helpful. I had a small double ensuite which was attractive and comfortable, with lots of thoughtful touches which were appreciated. This particular bed however was not very comfortable! The breakfast menu was excellent, and my order arrived quickly. This is a convivial and pleasant pub.'

A small slice of Scotland

'Having only visited Scotland a handful of times & most of my ventures have been for business trips, I don't think you can get a more traditional Hotel than the "Original" to stay in, the Breakfasts & meals/drinks served are top quality & I would certainly advise anyone who is staying in the area to book in at this hotel, regards Barry Smythe'

Hogmanay 2013
5 stars 5

'We spent 3 nights at the Original, including their splendid Hogmanay Ball. The accommodation and food was excellent throughout our stay and staff were friendly and obliging. Could recommend the hotel to anyone seeking a quite stay close to Edinburgh. We used the local bus to get into and out of town - only problem was no buses on New Year's Day! (the hotel had given us prior warning of this and offered to organise a taxi, but we preferred to spend the day walking along the river in Roslin Glen). Make sure you visit Roslin Chapel before the holiday, too - it is well worth a visit and it is closed on bank holidays.'

Hogmany break
5 stars 5

'We just came back from a lovely 3 night break at the Original Rosslyn Hotel and have to say it was excellent from start to finish. Mr Harris and his Son and all the members of staff made us most welcome. On Tuesday 31st December it was my partners birthday and I asked Mr Harris son if it would be possible to have a cake (which I had already brought) in our room and he said that it was no problem and he would bring it up for us if I wished as it was a surprise. A few minutes later he arrived at our room with the cake and candle and two glasses of wine at no extra charge, this was a lovely surprise so many thanks for that it was a very nice touch. In the evening we attended the Hogmany Ball a wonderful night was had by all with little delay in being served our delicious meal, there was also I might add a live band playing through till 1am. We found all the meals we ate at the hotel to be of excellent standard and well presented, we had a very comfortable room on the 1st floor so once again a big Thank you to Mr Harris and all the team for a wonderful short break. Martin and June'

'Our 3 night stay was most comfortable. The room was a generous size. Breakfasts were delicious and the portions large, as were the evening meals served in the lounge bar. It was good value. 'We originally had decided to stay in Edinburgh but due to the festivals and the tattoo were unable to acquire accommodation in Edinburgh central. For this, we are extremely grateful as we could not have been more delighted with the original Rosslyn Hotel. The management and staff were obliging, the rooms clean and comfortable and the customer service brilliant. We will on our next journey, rebook with the hotel and look forward to seeing the management and staff in the near future. Do yourselves a favour and sample the fine dining as provided on our stay!'
