About Buckinghamshire

Welcome to Buckinghamshire where you can escape into a contrasting landscape of tranquil countryside and lively towns.

Stretching from the London outskirts towards the Midlands, Bucks is home to the rolling Chiltern Hills and the meandering River Thames. Country walks run between picturesque villages with a host of welcoming pubs. Why not relax by shopping in the pretty market towns of Marlow, Amersham or Buckingham? Or explore our rich literary heritage in the footsteps of writers such as John Milton, TS Eliot and Mary Shelley. Lovers of historic houses will be spoilt for choice with the magnificent Waddesdon Manor and the stunning Cliveden.

For excitement look no further than Xscape, Europe's largest indoor skiing complex, or Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit. And please the children with a trip to Bekonscot Model Village or the Roald Dahl Children's Gallery!

Waddesdon Manor

Waddesdon Manor

Waddesdon manor was built between 1874 and 1889 in the style of a 16th-century French chateau for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild to entertain his guests and display his vast collection of art treasures. It houses an extraordinary assemblage of French 18th-century decorative arts to rank in importance with the Metropolitan Museum, New York and the Louvre in Paris. Outstanding paintings include portraits by Gainsborough and Reynolds and works by Dutch and Flemish masters of the 17th-century. Waddesdon has one of the finest Victorian gardens in Britain and is renowned for its seasonal displays. A Rococo-style aviary houses a splendid collection of exotic birds and vintage Rothschild wines are found in the wine cellars. This property is owned by The National Trust.

Dorney Court

Dorney Court

Dorney Court has been the home of the Palmer family for more than 450 years, passing from father to son through thirteen generations. It is a Grade 1 listed building, further designated as being of outstanding architectural and historical interest. Dorney Court has always been the manor house of Dorney village which was first recorded in the Doomsday Book. Dorney Court has been open to the public since 1981. A great deal has been achieved in restoring and preserving the historic house and gardens for the future. This has been possible thanks to the interest and patronage of visitors from the four corners of the globe. The House and Estate show the evolution of the squirearchy in English country life, and of particular interest are the early family portraits, furniture and needlework.
