This is only the second time i have stayed at the Hotel but i will be staying each time i am in the area. The service and welcome is excellent, bedrooms spacious and has everything you would need along with little extra touches. The meals are of a high standard and the value for money is amazing, I will always try to stay here when i am in the area.
I cannot fault the Hotel, staff or the management. Both stays i have felt relaxed and satisfied in my mind the Hotel is under valued how they can provide such a top class service for the money i do not know.

We (10 people) stayed in the cottage I between Christmas and New Year. The cottage was warm and welcoming when we arrived and the private parking for 2 cars was a bonus. The cottage is in sight of the hotel so the bar and restaurant are a very short walk away. The house contained everything we needed. The kitchen was fully equipped with your basic essentials. In fact the only thing we found missing in the whole house was a coat rack/hooks. But with plenty of wardrobe space this wasn’t a big issue although if we’d had wet weather this may have been more of an issue. We ate in the restaurant and the food was delicious. The staff were very helpful and extremely welcoming. I really couldn’t fault our time there, we all had a lovely time. The WiFi was always very good in the cottage which was a bonus given we had teenagers in the party!! Would and have recommended this property.

Stopped for one night having spent the day in Glasgow.
Very easy check in and the room, number 4 was large and comfortable. The bed was huge and the bathroom well fitted out and the hotel provided toiletries.
We had a meal in the bar area and the quality was excellent, as were the prices for both the food and drink. My wife’s steak was cooked to perfection and my steak pie was one of the best I have had anywhere. It was great to share the bar with local people as well who, along with Nigel, who was mein host, were very friendly and willing to have a chat.
We had a great sleep and the hotel was extremely quiet which is always something I appreciate.
Breakfast was very tasty with everything you could want.
All in all I would highly recommend this hotel.
Great staff, easy to get to and just a nice place to be.
One last thing, don’t forget to say hello to Monty and don’t expect your meeting to be a short one.

I loved staying here! The room was very clean and was nothing more than what I needed. I had been traveling for quite a long time when I finally arrived, and was greeted by a wonderful shower. The staff was lovely and incredibly helpful. I’m sorry I don’t remember his name, but the gentleman who stayed there and checked me in after closing hours was a particular gem of a person. He seemed like he never went home, always the first person I saw in the morning during breakfast and the last one closing up the place for the night, yet always with a great smile and personality. The breakfast was delicious and the one dinner I had there was phenomenal! I can’t recommend this place highly enough!

We have stayed at The Crestfield previously when visiting friends in Ecclefechan and find it to be an ideal choice. The hotel is a little dated however don't let that put you off as the welcome, food and customer service more than make up for it. It's also in a great place to use as a base for exploring Dumfriesshire. Well worth checking out.

I stopped off en route from Hertfordshire to Newton Stewart. The Hotel bar was busy including locals which I felt was a good sign. The only improvement i would suggest is that there should be more staff as I frequently waited for service. My room was clean and comfortable (good water pressure in the shower). The food was good (I had a 3 course dinner and a full scottish breakfast). I was very happy as a single traveller.

The staff were really accommodating in allowing us an early check-in to get ourselves ready, and one of the lovely receptionists kindly came to my rescue when a button on my dress popped off just before the wedding, and expertly sewed it back on!

We stayed one night in this really nice old country house. The public areas are elegantly traditional and in keeping with the building. The owner was very hospitable and welcoming and showed us to room 4 on the first floor which in contrast is modern and very tastefully furnished including a very comfortable kingsize bed. Tea/coffee making facilities provided with biscuits. This room is large with a bay window overlooking the very nice grounds and hills beyond. The ensuite bathroom is well appointed with a good shower over large bath and good toiletries provided. To be picky the bathroom is a tad dark and would benefit from an additional light over the basin.
The bar is comfortable and used by both residents and friendly locals with reasonably priced drinks. We had dinner in the very pleasant dining room and the food was freshly cooked and good value for money. The waiting staff were very attentive and friendly. The full Scottish breakfast is top quality and will set you up for the day.
This is a great value hotel and we have no hesitation in recommending it.

We just love staying at The Cressfield. Upon arrival we are greeted warmly even though it may be a couple of years since our last stay. Rooms are clean, tidy, beautifully furnished, beds are extremely comfortable, good varied menu, reasonably priced, delightful friendly helpful staff, nothing is too much trouble.I could go on but by now you must have realised that we cannot fault the hotel. The location is beautiful, the hotel and surrounding ground looks fantastic, very friendly welcome, room was large, bed super comfortable, nice big bath, but in room 1 you need to make sure the windows are shut for the Cockatiel! Staff were excellent especially the manager and the waitress. It felt like they could of done with a third person during dinner but the staff that were on were working their socks off and of top quality! We had a lovely, clean, comfortable and very spacious room with views of the garden and hills. We enjoyed a hearty breakfast to set us off on a morning and a delicous meal in the restaurant each evening. The information provided in our room was spot on which I found refreshing ..just a longer flex on the welcome tray kettle would have made it perfect. Booked as close to work appointment the following day. Lovely relaxed and friendly welcome even though we turned up late! Rooms warm clean and comfy. Food was a very pleasant surprise. Excellent quality and plenty of it. Breakfast included which was really good to. Meeting the large boxer dog snoozing on the stairs in the morning summed it up. Relaxed friendly and laid back but still with excellent service and attention. I will certainly use again and happy to recommend to others too.

Efficient Friendly Staff on arrival, who helped me book a local taxi. Room was very clean, great shower with lots of hot water. Wifi and delicious Scottish Breakfasts. Excellent for myself as a great quality unfussy hotel. I would recommend and use again.

Have known the Cressfield for a long time, but this was the first time we had stayed. First impressions always count and the staff were all pleasant and helpful. The public rooms have retained their country house feel, especially the dining room, which has some superb decorative features and a lovely old fireplace.
Our room was big and comfortable, although the en-suite was a bit of a squeeze.
Finished off with a really good breakfast, which made a good end to a relaxing stay.
Handily placed for the M74 if you are passing through, or there's plenty of countryside round about and the Solway coast not so far away.

The hotel is a little old fashioned but very clean and the staff are second to none. All were friendly and pleasant. our room was large with great views and very warm and clean. The restaurant served excellent food and the service was so quick and efficient yet all was freshly cooked. The Ecclefecchan tart was a revelation and would be perfect at Christmas as it had all the seasonal spices.

We stayed for a night on the way to the northwest and on our return, we definitely made the correct decision in picking the Cressfield. Nigel and the staff very friendly and welcoming, we had our dog with us and she was very welcome as well. The hotel is very comfortable, we had the king room which was large and well furnished with a view from the large bay window. It is very convenient for the motorway, just a few minutes away. The hotel was spotlessly clean. The bar and restaurant were also very good, the evening meal was excellent and a really good breakfast. If you want a really good hotel at a reasonable price in this area we would strongly recommend the Cressfield. We are hoping to be able to stay again sometime.
