A perfect retreat 3 years ago
This was our second visit to Kilcamb Lodge. We had spent a long weekend here a couple of years ago and had been blown away by the spectacular setting of the hotel, with its beautiful lawn leading straight to the loch. This time we came back for one night en route to our holiday cottage on the peninsula, with our dog in tow, and had an even more brilliant experience. Firstly, it was an absolute joy to return to such a peaceful and beautiful environment. It was just as wonderful as we had remembered. The house itself is cosy and warm, and the big living room is beautifully furnished and the perfect place to have an aperitif before dinner. We were given a dog friendly room - and we were really happy to see that it was in fact a lovely, comfortable room just like the one we had previously stayed in, the only difference being it was towards the back of the house with easy access to the outside stairs that lead directly to the garden, as dogs are not permitted in the living and dining areas of the hotel - which is a great idea as it preserves the tranquility for all guests! They sweetly provided a water bowl, biscuits and a towel for the dog in the room as a matter of course. So, as a dog friendly hotel, it gets absolute top marks and needless to say our dog was delighted at being let out straight into a huge lawn to romp around on! The service was also fantastic. We were greeted warmly and nothing was too much trouble. All the staff we met were extremely polite, friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was fantastic - beautifully done local produce, and was actually better, we think, than when we were last there. Breakfast was delicious with lots of choice, and all meals and drinks can be taken (daylight allowing)looking out of the windows onto the loch. For us, Kilcamb Lodge is quite a special place. It's a lovely, low-key country house hotel in the most beautiful setting where you can really get cosy and enjoy wonderful food after a day out in the wild.
